i typically look at the car to see if it's going to stop... and the spinners typically don't spin that fast as to make you think they're going to plow through the intersection...

and the hubcap ones are rediculously funny... :)

aaaand i can't stand people who think they're cool... it's like... why?? altho when everything is chromed out, with chrome spinners... i guess they can spend their money however they want to, i'll just point and laugh when i see them.

Why would you need a law against this? What's the harm?

When they pull up to a stop sign or light it looks like the car is still moving and not actually stopping. People look at the wheels a lot of times to make sure the car is going to stop and it can cause wrecks because the drivers slam on their brakes to prevent a wreck from happening.

I hope this passes in all states. It is very annoying and is not safe.

I would think it would be more effective to look at the car itself to determine whether it is moving. Maybe that's just because I'm not mentally retarded.

Exactly...yes you can justify it by saying if you look long enough you can tell but think of elderly people and those who don't have the best vision...just catching a glimpse of spinners on a stopped car could cause that "oh sht" panic and get them into a wreck.

I said it before and I'll say it again:

Sorry, but if someone is that stupid, they should march right down to the DMV, hand them their license and tell them they are incapable of driving a motor vehicle.

I would propose that spinners be standard equipment for all cars.

Well, it would encourage more people to sell their cars and take public transit :)

What the hell is with New York? I swear that before they are done each citizen there will have a designated government hand holder to regulate every single aspect of life.

maybe if you weren't mentally retarded you'd realize that for some people the spinners give the illusion that the car is only doing a rolling stop at a sign and not a complete stop.

exactly...all you supremist asshats don't realize not everyone is as amazing as you are at the vehicular arts...one wreck because of misjudgment due to spinners is too much, it's the same with flashing lights and underbodies being illegal, it's a distraction.

It isn't other drivers that complain it is the cops. Watching peoples rims is the best way to tell if a car did a rolling stop or a complete stop for a quarter of a second.

I just don't see the logic behind such a law.
Sometime last year or the year before there was a lawsuit where someone had claimed that they were involved in an accident because it confused them... couldn't tell if that vehicle was moving or not. I don't have specifics, but I can tell you this, very often it is the rim of a vehicle on a side street that I look at to determine if they are about to pull out ahead of me. It's not a sure-fire way to do it, but to me it's the easiest way. That's all I'm arguing.

Sorry, but if someone is that stupid, they should march right down to the DMV, hand them their license and tell them they are incapable of driving a motor vehicle.

I could not agree more with Amused. I see nothing wrong with spinners. You guys complaining are the same people who scream out at people who decide to deck their cars with stickers, exhaust systems, and intakes (on Hondas in particular). Who cares, it isn't your car, it's their life. We're not living under your rule, the USA is a free country, do as we please so long we're not hurting anyone else. Having spinners or any other stupid looking hub caps does not hurt anyone. At least I haven't heard of it hurting anyone.

This needs a fresh quotation without all the nesting.

AND IT STILL APPLIES.
