NYC owns all other cities. Ask anybodys that been to 42nd street to tell you about it. Ask anybody thats been to a Broadway show to tell you about it. This is the city that never sleeps remember that. and don't forget to bring your caffeine when you come cause I doubt you will be getting any sleep with everything there is to do here.

thank you and goodnight

NYC>San Fran or San Diego>LA

NYC has wayy more museums, culture, events, Central Park (take the carriage ride), nightlife, etc. The weather is REALLY nice this time of year.

Remember, there's a law in LA where bars close at an early hour (1 or 2 AM???).

PM me if you want info on cheap hotel prices in NYC at around $100 (4* or 3*).

I currently live in LA and went to manhattan once (is NYC manhattan??)

I like manhattan because its a pretty small area compared to LA. YOu can basically take a bus or a subway to go from any point to any point.

There are prorably more things to do in LA. The problem is, the location is widespread, so it is crucial to have a car. Also prepare for like 1 hour drive between locations.

NYC is where I would go, but we don't have Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles, Oki Dogs or Meaty Meats here. Otherwise NYC is way more interesting.

She really wants to go to NYC, and that's what I'm hearing as the recommendation from all of you. I will be going during the summer, but I am not worried about the heat. I'm from Alabama.

Definately NY. I lived in Brooklyn myself for about 6 months, and was never bored. I've never been to LA myself but I have had friends re-locate down there from the Seattle area and they say it's an absolute big dirty hole.

I grew up outside of LA (in Pasadena), and I live in Irvine (55 miles south of LA) now. I have also been to Manhattan twice (a friend of mine goes to school at Columbia), and I'd rather go to NYC. In fact I'm planning a trip for next month where I'll be going to NYC, DC, and maybe Boston. I've never been to DC or Boston but I have friends in both cities now so it should be fun!!! :D

Is this a serious question? Is there anything to do in LA? Dude, NYC all the way. They don't call it the Capital of the World for nothing.

Well, sounds like NY is the place to be then!

Go NY, it's got more culture, better transportation, and better food. If you need a beach, stop off at coney island. In addition, it won't fall into the ocean, and there aren't any oakley wearing volleyball playing tanned within an inch of their lives california surfer boys to steal your gf's attention. Granted there's no volleyball playing tanned within an inch of their lives beach bunnies for you to ogle either ..

Edit: well if it's during the summer, then coney island is absolutely not optional.

NY...Manhattan is da shiznit compared to L.A.

You can walk just about anywhere you want to go or just a short subway ride away. L.A. is all highway jammed with cars.

Depends on if you want to veg on a beach (if so, I can think of dozens of places better than L.A.) or enjoy the offerings of a big city.
'Veg on a beach or enjoy the offerings of a big city?'

I think L.A. offers both. L.A.-area cultural institutions absolutely own S.F.'s and rival (though still lag a little bit behind) what NYC brings to the table. Off-Broadway stuff? North Hollywood's small playhouses and their unique productions are the place for you. Our opera and symphony are among the world's best. Then we have the renovated Hollywood Bowl and in 2005, the renovated & expanded Griffith Observatory to take in all the gorgeous sights from. I could babble on with what to see & do in L.A., but you've probably already made your decision.

The only negative I can see is that depending on your hotel location and the sites you want to see (somewhat reliable mass transit is starting to reach just about everywhere), having a car is more than likely going to be an incredible convenience, if not an all-out necessity. Oh, and if spring is any indication, our summer might be a scorcher (though w/o the humidity likely to be present in NYC).

So I think it's more appropriate to say it's between:

vegging on a beach (or in the hills, mountains, desert, etc.) and enjoying the offerings of a big city

vs.

enjoying the offerings of a big city

;) :p

She's never been to NYC, but I've been before. I got to see the WTC, Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, etc.
