NY should be separated into two states, NYC and UpstateNY.

Upstate NY refers to the Rochester/Buffalo/Syracuse area 😛.

That'd just be weird saying "I'm going to Upstate NY" when I'm actually in the Southern Tier of NY...
i think of upstate as anything above NYC. it's a proven fact that upstater's taxes would drop if NYC was severed from them.

Hmm, a teacher at a local high school (here in Mississippi) got suspended without pay recently for saying "a group of black boys made a mess at that table."

Same teacher has also dated a black woman, still they think he is a racist and a liability, I wonder what would have happened had one said the "n word" instead of "black."
that's ridiculous!

what's so bad about calling a black person black or a white person white? ffs 😕

wtf, ban for racism and bad fellowship

/OT

i hope you are not serious.

Check your sarcasm detector, also note bolded words and the fact that this is ATOT and not OT 😛 😀

- M4H
actually, they say A LOT worse on OT.

Thus the natural escalation of this would be that saying "black" is horribly racist, etc.

Have some coffee mosh 😛

- M4H
i need more than coffee.

In principle it is a good symbolic gesture.

Blacks have been using that word for way to long to describe themselves and the scumbag rappers and other thugs that use it every other word are disgraceful.
I know it sounds like a very small measure, but the truth is using self-humiliating language to describe yourself does have an impact on the community and the never-ending struggle for many of them to reach acceptable levels in society.

Does this mean I can't call my self a cracker or redneck. Do we have to get Nabisco to rename there saltine crackers to something else?

The only reason n1gger is a bad word anymore is because of people that can't let go of the past and keep bringing up things as being "racist" when in actuality they are only making a stink about it to further THEIR personal agenda to make money from their "charity". <cough>Jesse Jackson<cough>

I said as a symbolic GESTURE this was a good thing.
It has nothing to do with a personal agenda. The fact that many blacks constantly talk like that is not good for their community as a whole. I have spent considerable time in other civilized countries outside of the US, and most of the black people in those countries are very similiar to the whites in the way that they dress, talk and areas that they live in. They don't have that same n-word mentality that some of them have here, and it shows by their general status in society. Educating people to stop calling themselves slaves would be a good step in helping solve the negative attitude a lot of the underclass has here. Oh and that is not limited to blacks, it especially includes those that think they can be part of that ghetto culture as well.

nonbinding measure
that's a pretty misleading title.

Agreed. This isn't really news to be honest, though I'd be horrified if it passed. I live in NYC and I don't hear about most of the crap mentioned in these "those crazy New Yorker!" threads.
