New Years Resolution: Office Fitness Competition

A few of us in my office are talking about starting a competition to keep us motivated to get healthier.

Problem:
Some of us need to drop fat, others are in pretty good shape.

Is there a way to make the playing field even?

Are there any ways to measure over all health?

Or is losing X number of pounds equal to gaining Y in mass?

Any suggestions would be awesome, except dumb suggestions. Those are dumb. 😀

Whats the prize? Usually competitions like these have clearcut winners.

Maybe have different categories that add up to the total winner.

Weights
cardio
blood cholesterol levels

Every time my office does this they do weight lost, which means the fattest people win every time.

You could do something like most time spent exercising, but you would have to rely on everyone being honest.

Maybe weight lost as a percentage of starting body weight? That evens the playing field a little bit.

Prizes: We all put $$ in the pot. Winner takes all (unless there is a tie).

Right now, there are just 4 of us who hang out at work. 2 of us need to lose, the other 2 are pretty trim, but need to exercise more.

We were thinking about setting a goal for each person and measuring how close they come to that goal. But I don't know how fair/consistent we can make that method.

It's hard to be entirely fair due to various body types, but you need at least two seperate categories.

One for weight loss and one for body composition (weight gaining/muscle gaining).

The weight loss should be based off of body fat %.

The muscle gain could be some some ratio of BMI to body fat %.
