Extremely long story, but I will cut to the chase so to speak.

I cannot get windows xp pro to load with sp2 on this setup.

I have an original sp1 disc, a disc with sp2 slipstreamed into it, and the huge sp2.exe from ms. I use BootIt NG (bing).

After installing bing and creating two partitions, I tried the slipstreamed disc. In device manager, got no lan and 4 yellow !s on some pcie entries.

Also tried original sp1 disk and then huge sp2.exe. Same thing in device manager

Also tried original sp1 disc and the smaller 75mb sp2 through windows update. Same thing in device manager.

Reflashed bios from 14 to 12, did the ritual.

Used bing to delete and wipe all the partitions except it's 8mb one. Tried the slipstreamed disc with bing removed. When it got to where to install I had it delete the 8mb partition and then create a 10gb one, Then had windows do a full ntfs format on it. Install went along as expected. When rebooted, device showed the usual plus a number of yellow !s on some usb hubs or something like that. Was going to try to install some drivers, found neither the front or rear usb ports able to reognize the usb flash drive I had been using all along.

Reinstalled bing, made one partition and installed sp1 to it. I was able to load all the inf, realtek, and marvell drivers and had lan and all other things fine in device manager, Just no sp2.

A forum member from the abit forums has been incredibly helpful to this noob. He is concerned with the 5 year old pci matrox dual head video card. I drove 40 miles to a larger town and tried two shops to borrow/rent a used card for testing, but no luck. Will try another larger town tomorrow,

So, anybody have any kind of problem installing xp pro with sp2 like this before? Anybody have similar where it turned out to be one of the cards?

Anything will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Chris.

It sounds like you just need to install motherboard drivers. XP apparently doesn't have drivers for your board.

Thank you for the response.

Whenever I installed only windows xp pro sp1, I was able to then install intel's INF drivers followed by Realtek's drivers and finally the Marvell drivers. The matrox drivers and Viewsonic drivers can also be installed.

I did use the latest drivers from each of their web sites.

Device manager would then show the lan adapter and I was able to configure it, go online and download the ton of high priority updates. Everything else in device manager was good; no red xs or yellow !s.

I did not use the supplied abit disc because the drivers on them are usually not the latest. Reading the instruction manual sounded like I would pick each driver for install so I do not know where any other motherboard drivers would be loaded from. When you put the disc in the drive and it spins up, does it automatically load things without your knowledge?

It is just whenever, and however, I try to install sp2 that things go sideways.

Thanks, Chris.
