New XP Pro install

I dumped Vista after 1 week of solid frustration trying to make it work with software that supposedly was Vista certified.

I went to Fry's tonight and bought XP Pro, OEM. I have a network and three freestanding computers at work that run on XP Pro, when they boot up all of them say Windows XP Professional on the splash screen.

When I boot up this system it just says Windows XP. When I look in computer properties it says "Window XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2"

I'm just curious, why doesn't the splash screen say Professional and why does it say Version 2002? Is this an old version of XP? Like I said, I bought it at Fry's since it was the only place to get the OEM easily but when I say I don't trust Fry's that's putting it mildly.

Win XP SP0 and SP1 show the version (Professional and Home) on the boot screen, SP2 and SP3 don't show it.

It's just a esthetic difference, your computers are all fine. (I still recommend to install SP2 on all of them)

Thanks Phillipart, like I said, I've always got my guard up when I go to Fry's.

Now there is SP3, I recall some warnings here about installing it. Any thoughts?

SP3 is not officially out yet.

Wait for the official release.

And I would strongly recommend installing SP1/SP2 on the other computers, as Philippart said.

The version I bought had SP1 and SP2 included in the installation disk. Thanks for the info about SP3, I'll just wait until it's official.
