New XP install with 2 HD's - one old, one new

So I'm putting together a new system in which I've upgraded everything, and I have 2 sata drives (not to be used in a raid or anything) - one being a new 320gb, and the 2nd being an older 80gb that my previous system was running the operating system on. On my new system, I want the 320 gig to be the primary drive with the OS installed on it (just so everything is completely clean and to make sure past drivers and whatnot dont cause any problems), and just want the 80 gig one there so all my old files are still accessible. Any problem with this?

Also, when installing XP on the new HD, should I already have the older HD plugged in, or do I need to wait till after Windows is completely installed? I know this is pretty basic stuff but just want to make sure I'm doing it right...

Nick,

Leave the old HD unplugged during the install.
After you get everything installed and updated, then plug it in.

You'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

You shouldn't have any problems having the old drive with the old OS on it. I use my old Drive with my old OS on it as storage too.

As KGBMAN said --- unhook the old hard drive while you are setting up the new on. It will save a lot of headaches by making sure you won't format/rewrite onto the old drive you want to save. Unfortunately, I know from exp.
