New X800 XT PE won't run ATI Ruby demo!

Here's my problem.

The ATI Ruby demo (v1.2) loads, says warming cache, and then my monitor loses the signal and goes into sleep mode. The only way to recover from this is to reboot my computer. I've had this exact same thing happen while playing BF:V and UT2K4. The only difference is that I was actually able to get the games running.

Now, I know it's not a deffective card because I can run the ATI Crowd demo all day long and my temp only hits 65C. I'm also able to run 3dmark03 (scored a little under 12k), 3dmark2001se, and OpenGL games without any problems.

I've tried everything I can think of including a clean install. I've been told that it could be my power supply but I really don't think so because I have no problem running the ATI Crowd demo for hours. If it was my PS, why would I be able to run the Crowd demo but not the ruby demo? Also, I've been using this same 420W PS for two years with my 9700 Pro and have never seen this problem until now.

I'm going to get a new PS today and see if that works. I'm also going to try replacing my monitor. Could it be a problem with my monitor not liking the X800 XT PE?

Anyway, if you've run into this same problem or have any suggestions it would be really appreciated. I'm at the end of my rope and about to put this thing up on ebay. CompUSA wants to charge me a 15% restock for if I return the card.

My money is on the board being at fault. I had that board and it would not run my 5800U for money or love with a True430.

EDIT: You would be well served to replace that aging P4PE anyways, so I'd start there given my experience with a power hungry 8x card in that board.

If that's your perspective, then why did you buy a AGP vid card now?

Well I'll be damned. My mobo doesn't have an option for anything but AGP 4x and x1 so I never bothered changing it to 4x because it was already on 4x. Anyway, just for the hell of it I changed it to 1x and the damn demo worked. However, I was getting all kinds of errors saying stuff wasn't loading. This must be due to the use of 1x AGP.

So now I know it's my AGP. What can I do to fix it? I have the latest ASUS BIOS. Should I just upgrade my mobo? I was going to go A64 anyway.

4X AGP should work exactly like 8X AGP, including performance.

It's posssible your board doesn't like the new card, but the fact that it's only a 4X AGP board should not be a factor at all.

What do SMARTGART and DXDIAG say about your AGP?

The P4PE has a 4X slot, not 8x, 4x is 1.5v and 8x is .8v, so why can't 4x be a factor? Despite most vid cards being designed to be somewhat backwards compatable, I can assure you that is not always the case. I had that board and it wouldn't run my power hungry 8x card with the extra molex plugged in so I know that board can bonk with high clocked 8X boards through experience. Experience > Theoritical compatability specs ;)

Edit: upgrade your board is my advice.
