New X-Fi driver

It says:
* Includes Creative Audio Console, which enables you to use the Sound Blaster X-Fi features and functions.
* Does not address all the reported general "crackling" issues, but it does resolve some specific issues with crackling. Investigations with some motherboard manufacturers are ongoing, and we hope to provide a general solution soon.
* Resolves some issues to improve your overall audio experience.

and more.

Sounds good. Glad that they take notice of the crackling issue.

The file and description are indeed identical to that of the 3 July 06 release. Check later and maybe they'll have sorted it out and there actually will be a new file available.

Well, not exactly identical: piccy of differences

Cool. Tell me if they make a big diiference in sound. I've had no issues, so I'm sticking with the drivers before the June update (April?).

The main change is probably for X-Fi Elite Pro owners. The July X-Fi driver release DID NOT SUPPORT the X-Fi Elite Pro, since (by Creative's reasoning) there was some sort of Cubase ASIO bug with the Elite Pro model only. On the Creative forums, a lot of Elite Pro owners have been demanding a new driver, since the latest driver for them (before the release) was the beta X-Fi driver with the September 22 time bomb.

Hmm weird, it seems that the driver file is the same one as the June driver update

Yeah, I noticed it to. When I go to save on my driver HD, it asks if I want to overwrite the old version.

*EDIT*

Its exactly the same as the previous version. Creative must think we are idiots. They may be right. I keep buying their crap! 🙂

I have this queued for priority delivery. Times like this make me really miss my land broadband connection. 🙁

Anyways, the judge will be out with XP64 w/4GB to see if the horrid cracking is still there. My fingers are crossed.

uh oh, I use XP x64 with 4gb of ram and an X-fi extreme music, the july06 release has made things better but occasionally there are some crackling sounds, this is the same driver no?

Yep, same file sizes and name. Just dif dates on the files but its all the same. In other words, the drivers still suck.

What a waste of time. :|

The crackling is still there with 4GB/XP64/NUMA etc. One thing the elite pro will never be able to do is swim - but this one may just sink to the bottom along with that POS X1900XTX right alongside it. :frown:

That means the driver stops working on Sep 22. It's used to make sure people don't use beta software for too long.
