New with VOIP and have some questions

Hi,

I have some questions with VOIP since I now have it and need some assitance getting it all setup. So, currently there is an connectivity issue to connecting the internet to the actual VOIP box that was provided by the provider. The internet is hooked up in the basement and the telephones are on the 2nd floor. Now I know that I could just buy a long enough cord to relay the internet from my router to the 2nd floor, but I was wondering if there was some way to wirelessly bring the data to the 2nd floor via like a wireless range extender module? Has anyone ever had to deal with this sort of thing before?

wireless bridge would work but my recommendation would be to wire a cat5e cable from where the internet router is up to the 2nd floor. Although if the internet is in the basement, isn't the basement also where all the telephone cables come down and connect to? Why not just hook up your VOIP adapter in the basement and connect the telephone port up to where all the telephone cables come together (most likely a punch down block or 66 telephone block), that way all the outlets are wired up to the VOIP.

An alternative way to handle this if you are not using DSL would be to disconnect your internal phone lines from the CO and plug the ATA that the VoIP company sent you directly into a phone jack in your house. That will provide dial tone throughout your entire house on the phone jacks that are already available. You MUST make sure to disconnect yourself from the CO first, though. Otherwise, you'll get some nasty phone calls from AT&T (or whoever owns the copper in your area).
