new wireless router needed?

If you have a 54mbps router and you have a 10mbps internet connection... well.. you do the math. I believe the issue arises when multiple devices use the internet simultaneously. Even then if you are not watching netfix or downloading huge files, you should be fine.

But still if you want, here's a great router at unbeatable price

First you should know that you Wireless Router is actually a FIOS Modem/Router.

Its Wireless component seem to be only 802.11g.

Assuming that you have FIOS of at least 20 Mb/sec., then you probably will do better with 802.11n, or even better with Dual Band Wireless.

Since you have Modem/Router you have two choices.

1. Check with Verizon for an Upgrade.

2. See if you can configured your current Modem/Router to act as a Modem only.

Then get a nice Dual Band Wireless Router.

P.S. Next time post questions like this in the Network forum.

😎

I have been using this Verizon 9100EM wireless router for a few years. no issues. I do not do any computer-computer networking...only using Internet on multiple devices and wifi printing.

My question is, will getting a new router improve Internet speeds? As in, does the wifi router noticeably slow down anything? (obviously it can't increase my Internet provider's bandwidth)

What's your current speed on speedtest.net vs advertised speed? I mean if you're paying for 25/5Mbs and your speedtest results are pretty close to it, I don't think a new router is going to do anything for you.

i am traveling for the next 3 weeks so i can't do speedtest.

i'm actually a comcast customer, i bought this router because it was on sale. i think i am in the 25mbps comcast internet deal.
