New wine old bottle: Napa supports Merom?

Do you know if the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU codenamed Merom (667 MT/s FSB) is compatible with original Intel Napa platform?

My Benq Joybook S31VW-319 has an Intel Napa platform. It comes with the Core Duo (Yonah) processor. I am fairly happy with the ergonomics of this laptop but if possible would like to upgrade to a faster processor.

Later models of the same Benq joybook product family do come with a Core2Duo processer and from the outside look exactly the same - but I am not so sure what is under the hood?

So far I have found out that Intel first released the CoreDuo (Yonah) processor on the Napa platform then about a year later introduced the Core2Duo (Merom) processor on what Intel called the Napa "Refresh" platform.

What I don't know is what (if any) difference there is between the Napa platform and the Napa "Refresh" platform apart from the name and if the difference between them means that I can or cannot upgrade the CPU of my laptop from CoreDuo to Core2Duo using the same original Napa platform.

Any guesses if this will work ():) or not?

Thanks for whatever advice you may be able to offer,

Peter

Thanks Nonameo, Looks like Yonah has socket M but Merom comes in different versions with socket M and socket P, so if I want to upgrade I need to find a Merom with socket M? Please correct me if I am wrong about this.

I mainly use my computer for processing very large graphics files (raw and tiff) using Photoshop Cs3 so expect that all else being equal an upgrade of the CPU from coreduo to core2duo would have a noticable effect on the speed of this task. I hope this is correct too?

There may be chipset limitations as well, but I think you'll be ok if you go with a socket M core 2. Please don't quote me on that though :) might also need a bios update.
