New Windows install

I am installing two new SATA 80 gig drives. I have them striped [RAID0] and am installing windows. Everything is fine and I started to (not quick) format. It started at a normal format pace to 72% and stayed there for at least 3 hours.

I woke up this morning and it was only on 77%. I was doing some work and was just looking over at it and noticed it started at a normal pace again and went up to 95% (75 to 95 in about 5 min) Now it's stuck on 95% for a few hours.

Obviously something is wrong. Is this a bad HD you think? or maybe soemthing else. I really don't have time to RMA these drvies to Newegg so I'm hoping it may be something else. I have never had a RAID array or used SATA drives before.

suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks.

It is entirely possible, and the most likely, that you have a bad HDD. Try another HDD, and try running the manufacturer's diagnostic tool on the HDD in question.

one other thing i need to add. WHen I was setting up the RAID array I went into the promise raid utility screen (just past the POST screen) and did a low lvl format. There was no warning or anything in there but after it was stuck on 99% for 3 hrs. I turned it off.

Most likely this was hanging for the same reason it is hanging now but I figure I would mention it in case that has anything to do with it.
