New Win 7 with SSD and problems with sleep mode

Hello,
today I bought SSD Intel X25-M 80GB and I have installed fresh Windows 7 64bit on it. I installed alson latest Intel chipset drivers and Intel RST. Everything is fine except one thing - sleep mode.

I disabled hibernation mode via command "powercfg.exe -h off" and restarted system. When I now choose Start -> Sleep my screend goes BLACK and PC keeps running - never goes to sleep. I cannot do nohing, screen is black and I can only restart the PC. Don't you know, what can cause this and possible solution? I don't want use hybrid sleep mode, just only sleep mode (saves dat to RAM, not HDD), that is the reason I disabled it.

My second short question is related to my old HDD system drive (also with Win 7) - when I plug it in now in my PC, where is installed new system on new SSD, what will happen? Will start Windows on SSD or on old HDD? I need tu plug it in and format it, so I could have it like Data HDD.

Thank for help!

First I would check to see if there is a BIOS update for your motherboard. Then I would look to see in your BIOS if your mode is set to S1,S3 or Auto. I would take it off Auto and force S3 to see if that works.

Your PC specs would help as well.

Thanks, I flashed my MB with latest fw as well. I will look for that S3 setting, thanks, what does it mean? And answer to that second question, don't you know?

UPDATE: I have looked in BIOS and I have it set to S3 🙁 So this is not the problem for me...

Type 'perf' in the win7 search bar. Choose 'Performance Information and Tools'. Click on 'advanced tools' It should give you some information about issues. Win7 keeps track of things and usually will start to list things here that it sees are getting worse, so if you have a new install it may require you to go into sleep and resume several times before it complains. Before I would normally check the event viewer, but that area simplified it.

Try instead of forcing it to sleep. Just set a 10min limit in windows power options and does it do the same thing?

I've had this issue with sleep on my machine sometimes but its not consitent. Everyonce in awhile the machine will wake up from sleep on its own. And sometimes won't wake up from sleep.

I'm also on a UPS which has caused issues with sleep aswell.

Thanks for replies, but problem is, that PC does not go to sleep mode - it switches off my LCDs, but PC keeps running and is frozen instead of going to sleep mode.

Makaveli>Yes, it does everytime I click "Sleep". Don't know, if this couldn't cause that fact, that I disabled hibernation via "powercfg.exe -h off"...

Overclocking? That can really screw with S3. S1 should still be fine, but not what you're looking for.

List system specs please.

I don't want you to click sleep I know that is not working. I want you to set in the power options for the machine to go to sleep on its own after 5-10 mins then post back if it still locks up.

Also have you checked your event viewer? Its possible something isn't shutting down properly or a possible device or driver maybe be the issue?

So, I tried to set it "go to sleep after 1 min" and it worked! PC normally got to sleep and when I hit key, it woke up.

Do you have idea, how to make it work under Start-Sleep?

Ok so forcing it to sleep = frozen.

Automatic sleep = working!

Did you get a chance to check your Event viewer yet?

Yes, nothing was there.

I just figured, that when I press sleep button on my keyboard, it works. So it is maby just problem with using Start - Sleep. Anyway, I always used only sleep button on my keyboard, so I think, it will be alright.

But one more queation to be sure - iAstor driver + Windows 7 + Intel X25-M = working Trim?

Yes TRIM should be enabled.

However to check it do this

Command prompt > fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify

DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)

Another thought...it may be your video driver. I have had this happen...and I would have thought the same as you...but the workstations in question had Logmein installed...which uses its own graphics driver. I found out that the system was fine (after logging in remotely) and that the issue was a driver problem...

Device Manager > Mouse properties > Power Management > uncheck privilege to wake

Sometimes USB devices will hold a computer in stasis. I'd suggest only giving your keyboard permission to wake.
