New wheels for my MR2. Opinions

I did some searching and found that the Motegi Mr7 16" wheels that I currently have mounted on my MR2 weigh in at a honking 20lbs each

Would this really be a big performance factor? I am looking at some Enkie RPF1 15" which weigh more than half at 9.5lbs. I would wrap them in "BFgoodridge g-force sport comp-2" for a total package of $1100. Shipping another $200.

$1300.00

Will I really see a $1300 difference?
Tell me.

another thing I am worried about. THe roads up here are not necessarily the nicest. WOuld a 9.5lb 15" wheel be more prone to damage with 195/50/15R than a 20lb 16" wheel with 205/45/16R??

wheels specs.
4 x 100.
would prefer 15"

7" with 41mm offset is near perfect fit. A wider tire with offset changed to match would be cool too. 215 or 225 tires would work too.

51.4mm Inner diameter hubs - so centering rings usually required

You could always go with some Enkie RPF1 ripoffs like the drag dr-21s and save a bit of cash in return for a few pounds of weight. That is what I did. Think I paid $350 for mine and they weigh around 12lbs each at 8" wide.

What do you do with this car?

Konig Heliums are nice, and they are pretty cheap as well($94), I believe they are 10.6 lbs for the 15's.

I've been running around with a set of them on my integra for the past 4 years without any problems. I don't go around hitting curbs with them though, so I don't really know how well they would stand up to something like that.

Edit: I also went with a 205/50 r15 instead of the original 195/55's due to price and tire availability.

get the enkei wheels. They are a good quality wheel, have a good rep, are light, and very affordable. they will be strong enough to withstand the roads as well, or better so, as any other wheel

I know this sounds wierd, but if you got 15" Mazda Millenia wheels they were the lightest OEM wheels that are 15" sold in America. they are 15x6 and weigh 11.5 lbs.

Not as light as say the enkei's but if you can pick these up for cheap... good add on. Autocrossers use them on their miata's

This is just for a street car.

I will need something wider than 6" so the mellnia wheels are out.
These will go on my MK1.5 MR2. So I need something that will hold up to 200hp+.

I currently have 205 Dirrezas and have traction problems.

Just dont know if there will be a $1500 difference.

FWIW, you are getting good wheels and good tires for 1300 bucks.... many on this board only get good tires for that kind of money.

what are you going to save if you go with lesser wheels? maybe 2-300 bucks? if you want new wheels and need new tires, I think it is a great choice. If you don't want new wheels nor need new tires, then hold off. How does one objectively measure if they would be worth the money? You just can't

If that is the star spec dirrezas they are a lot better tires than g-force sport comp. Don't think that will help any with traction problems.

why not just get Celica GT-S/MR-S wheels, they are 16" somewhat light and should be widely available

yeah one of the best bets for a 15" wheels are the spyder wheels they are very light and come 15X6 front 15X7 rear. and OEM strength which is always important. those with some 205 star specs i doubt youll have much in the way of traction issues :D and a good set of spyder wheels run 250-350 so cheap also and they look good on the MKI. so youd be 650-700 into a set of wheels and tires and that would make it worth it!

Won't it look weird if you use the same size tire front and rear with staggered wheels? The fronts will look "meatier"

Do you have Star Specs or DZ101s now? My 245-series Star Specs are holding 330rwhp without any problems.

Yep..though with an open diff, a 205 might have a hard time holding.

Will any TRMotorsports wheels fit? There are a lot of 15in options for not a lot of money. 15x7, 15x8, and 15x9.

I think those or the enkeis in the OP would look sick. Cost wise you cant beat two fifty for some light and strong wheels like the spyder wheels.

I have DZ101s currently. And I have a Llimited slip diff.

Ya, quite a few MK1 guys role with those. Ive asked a couple guys locally over the past year if they'd sell their stock rims but both wanted lots of money for them - ($80/rim minimum !?!)

There is one that pops up in a vehicle search. but its weird cuz it shows a wheel with a 5 bolt pattern - yet in the specs it says 4x100?? maybe it comes in both?

Not a bad looking rim either. I kinda like it.

Yar, they come in 4-lug. I have 225 RS3s on a set for my Miata. TRM wheels are drilled for many different lug patterns, they just put the 5-lug pics up.

I hated the DZ101s I had on my miata. My crappy all season tires were better than those things. I have 225 RS3s now on my drag-21 rims and they are the best tires I've had yet. Not exactly long lasting tires though.

RS3s are great as well. I'd consider switching to those (Star Specs are awesome in rain, but I don't have to worry about that much out here) but they don't have the right size for my fronts.

if you do go with the TRmotorsport wheels go with the C1M's they are built to spec miata standards so stronger! and go 15X8 all around with 225/45/15 RS3's you will have 0 issues with traction from that setup :D
