New Western Digital Caviar SE Hard Drive

Hmmm. They just started the production of the black e-coating and FDB recently. Now another change in their products.
I'll be looking foward to it and hopefully their drives will have longer warranty since Hitachi and Seagate have a great deal longer warranty period.

Actually, they started using FDB since last year, and the black tops since the beginning of the year. It wasn't until Q2 2004 that they changed their production line over to using these exclusively. Before then, you had to pick-and-choose to get the FDB versions. And during the transition period, it may be another guessing game to figure out which of their lower-capacity drives are the "newer, cooler, quieter" versions.

Anyways, this should probably be in a different forum than Hot Deals.

yeah, it would be nice if seller's could somehow label these as the newer drives when they start selling them. I think should be required by law to do this, there should be some law that when a manufacturer has more than one product with the same name, the seller has to be able to identify which product they are selling for the sale to be legal. However, I doubt this exists seeing as how some websites sell things like motherboards with no more info than a title like "ASUS A8V Socket 939 motherboard," no pics, stats, nothing. Amazing that its legal honestly.
