Depends on the type. The LED is basically the same, but some are worse than other. The large difference is in it's casing. Cheap one has stiff switch that's flaky. Nicer ones have better more responsive switches and sometimes a hold key so you don't have to hold it down to keep lit. There is even a fancier version that let's you change intensity, also flash mode with different flash mode.

Mine is plain and simple. $10. The fancy one from PhotonMicro with all the bells and whisles goes for $25 to $30.

<< Where did you buy it? >>

At a mall. The easiest place to get it is eBay.. unfortunately.

Illuminating light. Each color has unique property. Red for checking on people without waking them up, blue for lighting up a trail, green=most powerful since our eye is most sensitive to that color, white=full color. They're also popular with ravers since it attracts them so much attention.

<< Whya re hotels buying them? >>

I have no idea

Yes and yes

The original one comes from here

<< bah, thats just like any other keychain led light.. nothing special. i'd rather have my passenger laser the tailgater as its less obvious to other cars what you are doing. witnesses = bad. using an led is asking for it. >>

there's one problem with this: You can permanently blind him and then he sues you for $$$$

sure you won't get whiplash if your head is on the headrest ;)

btw. who the f!ck in their right mind gets out of their cars and confronts someone else? You're just asking to get shot or run over or something...

But you increase the likely hood of brain injury significantly.

..\/-- your brain ()=your skull
( + )..| <head rest
...|
...|
[your body]

When someone rear ends you, your body is suddenly accelerated since it's touching the seat. The body will try to accelerate the head through your neck, thus harming the neck. The seat back collides with your skull to prevent your neck from bending back too far. If your head was already on the headrest, the collision will accelerate your head as fast as your body. Brain's inertia tries to stay in place and skull could collide with the brain. Your brain is suspended in fluid and just like any objects with mass, it has inertia.

btw. who the f!ck in their right mind gets out of their cars and confronts someone else? You're just asking to get shot or run over or something...[/i] >>

Are you sure you're not confusing this with a laser pointer? You might develop a vision problem if you hold it right in front of your eye for five minutes, but this LED lights doesn't have the capability to harm someone's vision 10ft away.

Why not just mount a rear facing 12 guage shotgun through your back window from the inside of you car then. :)

Easiest/Safest way to deal with tailgaters:

MOVE OUT OF THEIR WAY!! You're not the cops, and are not responsible for enforcing traffic laws. The only thing that annoys me more than someone doing 80mph in a 45 zone is the idiot that thinks its his job to uphold the law by hogging the left lane and blocking the speeders. The tailgating, light flashing that you're suggesting, whipping in and out of lanes, and road rage that results is 100x more dangerous than the initial speeder.

Just keep yourself safe and know that sooner or later the tailgater will do something stupid to someone even dumber than they are.

Trust me it's NOT worth it . . . the money is temporary, your pain is forever. (The insurance company doesn't pay anything substantial for non-permanent injuries.)

Your imagination is getting carried away . . . the reality is very different. I have been the recipient of TWO whiplash insurance awards . . . I'd much rather have not had the crashes.

Tell that to my mom. She was hit in the rear at a traffic light four years ago. She suffered whiplash and has been complaining about chronic back pains since it happened. She sued the couple who hit her. It took two years to go through court and finally she ended up with $15,000. $9000 of this went to court costs, the lawyer, and doctors.

Neck pain for the rest of your life for $6000? Mmmm, sure.

My solution to the tailgating problem? I usually slow down to an unbearable speed for them and take my time. They can either deal with it or pass me and risk getting hit from the oncoming lane.

And remember kids, as soon as your 21 get a handgun and a concealed weapons permit so you're prepared for the possible maniac that might just hit you in the rear on purpose to start a fight. It could happen. America is wonderful :)

<< Tailgaters flashing at you thinking when you're at least going the limit on two-lane road or on right lane of a freeway? d00d flash him back! >>

when you are on a thruway and in the outside lane (fast lane) and someone flashes you that means move to the right lane and let them pass! if you want to just do the speed limit stay in the right lane.

Im sorry, move out of their way? Driving in chicago recently I was in the 2nd to right lane of a 4 lane highway when a jackass came right up to my bumper, literally about 6 inches away. This was in fairly light traffic at night. All 3 lanes beside me were clear at the moment, yet he felt the need to tailgate me FOR NO REASON for 3-4 minutes. I slammed on my brakes a couple of times, he obligingly dropped back after a while, only to DO IT AGAIN! :| Dont tell me to move out of the way when Im humming along at 75, in a SLOW lane. BTW, the dickhead passed me after a few more brakechecks, only to flip me off when passing! :| I then happily rode a safe distance behind him while "accidentally" leaving my high beams on to give him a taste of his own medicine. As he sped up, I followed him, turning my brights off after a while. I dropped off after he starting going about 90 to shake me. Stupid on my part? Perhaps. But no way in hell is anyone going to make ME move when im doing a proper speed in the proper lane and a stupid jackass decides he wants to have fun.

Jerboy-
Go buy yourself a rusted out 78ish Ford F-350 with cast iron bumpers. Should'nt cost more than $1000. I guarantee you won't have any tailgaters, but it may hurt you social life a bit.:D

[qnot if you have a crap car. plus, my bumper already has a deep gouge in it from before I got it, so if I got rear-ended that would get fixed as well. Voila, the car is better than it was before. :D[/i] >>

hahaha. my bf got his bumper fixed all nice and pretty from getting rear ended. :) he needed it painted anyway. although, he didn't purposely get rear-ended

<< Some nutjob was tailgaiting my ambulance when I was enroute back to the trauma center with a shooting patient. He was right behind me on the freeway when I was going ~80 with my lights and sirens on, guess he thought he would let me clear the traffic for him. I talked to dispatch on the radio and got a Nevada Highway Patrol car to wait for us about a mile ahead on the freeway. He got pulled over and issued a citation for over a grand. The NHP officer met me at the trauma center and said to call them if that ever happened again.

There is a huge fine for following an emergency vehicle when it is lit up like that.

Lol, great story, that idiot got what was coming to him for sure.

Yeah, I was talking about someone's post where they mentioned pointing a keychain laser pointer at someone :). Those can cause blindness very fast. Once while playing around with one, the laser bounced off a window (probably only 10% strength, the reflection), and went in my eye. Eye hurt like hell afterward and vision was weird for a bit (like an afterglare from looking at the sun or something). It only takes a split second to cause damage.

As for the headrest thing, hmm, I didn't think about that. The brain's malleable so it's much less susceptible to damage, but then again you don't wanna mess with the brain. So its basically neck damage vs brain damage...

So how did slamming on your brakes make an already dangerous situation safer for you and anyone else on the road?

Don't contribute to road rage

<< There is no way to "teach" chronic tailgaiters anymore than you can teach any other selfish and stupid person. Tailgating is inherently dangerous. >>

So there's NO HOPE in teaching a tailgater OR Jerboy the errors of their ways? I was hoping for at least 1 out of 2 here so we could get rid of the tailgaters.
