How is it at keeping time?

My last couple automatics gain about 20 seconds/day. Admittedly, they are much lower-grade than the Stowa though; just a Vostok and a Timex Automatic (I'm quite fond of the Timex, especially for the price, just wish is didn't gain time as much as it does).

this doesn't seem like a typical banker watch to me.

who makes the movement?

i just got it today. so i am not sure yet. will try to monitor that. but from everything i have heard, these guys have a great reputation for quality. also, it's actually a mechanical watch that is selfwinding.

haha yeah, not flashy at all. which is how i like it. i had a Poljot for about 6 months. manual wind, fairly muted too.

i dont think i am a banker :( analysts arent bankers.

ETA makes the movements.

I started to get the watch bug again a few months ago. I ordered an O&W Orange Ranger Diver.
and hope to get it any day now. Has an ETA movement in it too. Nice watch for under 3 bills.

Your watch is really nice looking, simple and elegant. I see people rave about them on a couple of watch forums.

Peace

that is a huge watch. nice luminosity in the dark. very much like my poljot. nice price point too. i think paid too much for mine. with shipping, it came out to like 800. which is a little high, but heck, it's a great watch.

Looks like a nice watch. I'm not too familiar with Stowa. Love the simple design though. That's typically the type of watch I buy as well.

$800 is still pretty cheap for a decent automatic, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you take care of it, it should last you a lifetime. I have a 1952 Omega Seamaster Automatic that still looks great and performs admirably.

Its funny, I dont have the broadest of wrists, but I like a bigger watch. My G-Shock that I wear every day is large (hell it takes up the width of my girly wrist) , and the strap is so big for my wrist that it actually sticks out the other side in an overlapping fashion. I am currently looking for a NATO style strap, but with the funky design of the Casio, its hard to find a band to replace it with.

As for overpaying, I say screw it. You have a watch that you can wear for years to come, with its classic design. You bought a nice timepiece that looks like it was made in limited quantities and I would consider it to be collectible in a few years.

Edit: As stated right above me, you will probably owm it the rest of your life. It would be nice to be able to give it to someone, like a son, as a nice gift.

Nice watch! I just recently got a Tag Carerra GMT and its a pretty classy looking dress watch. I might have to look into Stowa for another automatic. The Tag has a black leather band so now I need a brown.

Nice! A bit too rich for my blood right now, but still. Which color did you get?

heh...I picked up the very same watch a few months ago!

OP, I love that watch, thanks for ideas on a second watch...I want something with a medium to large face, simple decorations and THIN...I have relatively small wrists and I really don't like large clunky chronographs.

And I don't get the comments about "I don't understand how you can spend so much, blah blah blah"...do these people all drive 1992 Tauruses, wear the same wrangler jeans from high school and just not spend money on anything? They don't get expensive jeans, nice watches...?

Nice choice. I have toyed with buying a Stowa Airman, but I already have one pilot's watch, my Sinn 656.

I am currently wearing my Omega Seamaster GMT, and my newest acquisition is a beastly Marathon SAR. If I get a big bonus this year, I am idly entertaining the idea of picking up a JLC Reverso Duo - we shall see . . .

You mean that big court case you just won isn't a big enough "bonus"?

If I got the entire fee, a JLC would be at most a modest extravagance, but that's far from the case. I'll be lucky to see 5-10% of the fee. We've won two huge cases this year, with judgments totaling over $3M, but we haven't actually been paid, so . . .
