New Vita out today but already sold out at amazon

i like how it's 3 cents off. $200 seems like a bargain for what you get. i always thought this was much higher for some reason.

Well, if it's selling out, that's a good thing for us current owners. I'll probably pick up Borderlands. Just wish they're cut the price on those damn memory cards.

Is that borderlands bundle the only new version of the Vita? I seen a couple different Vita options still available..

Play with your friends with up to four (4) person cooperative multiplayer

Yeah... they may want to fix that product point, because a week or so ago, Sony admitted that they had to scale it back to two-person co-op play.

I pre-ordered after I looked at all the recent releases and upcoming releases. PS3 + Vita are the systems to own for Japanese games (other than Nintendo first-party) right now.

Amazon is saying Friday delivery for mine, so apparently Sony didn't get them stock until the last second, and only enough for their pre-orderes.

Based on that I'd guess that the bundle sold more in advance than Sony had expected.

Yeah, even the sale prices barely better than $2/gig which is nuts. I bought a 32gig a while back which is enough for me right now, but I'd really like a 64gig. $110 for 64gigs is not happening though... they can cram that where the sun don't shine

I still think it's the primary reason why people are avoiding the Vita. The new one comes with built in storage though.
The cards basically just Class 6 NAND with some additional DRM layers. Would be something if they had better performance than cheap, off the shelf MicroSDs.

Out of all the proprietary storage formats Sony has pushed out, only Bluray and Betacam have been moderately successful. What's the definition of insanity?

Didn't think they'd sell out either, glad I preordered mine! It'll be here tomorrow (Thursday) so I'll post my impressions after I've had a bit of time to play around with it.

With all their "for the gamers" and openness with PS4, Sony still can't get it in their head that Vita isn't doing well because those same gamers DESPISE proprietary overpriced media and know they are being ripped off hard and it's the ONLY reason for these stupid memory cards to exist.

Make it SD and quit trying to vender lock and profiteer off memory cards boom success.

When has Sony EVER been successful with proprietary media?

Never.

Minidisc...

Digital tape....

UMD...

Memory Stick...

The memory price is the only thing that I don't like about my vita (well, other than the system itself never sold well...)

I'm completely out of room on my current stick, time to either delete, or buy a new card - and the thought of paying that much for those cards really chaffs me.

The memory cards probably wouldn't be a huge deal, but Sony's own generosity with PlayStation Plus is essentially working against them. People get all these free games, and you can't really install more than one or two AAA titles without running out of space. It might be nice if there was an option to download Vita titles to the PS4 for storage and transfer to the Vita on demand. There's a similar feature available between the PSP and the PS3, but I think it only works for PSOne Classics.

This. I've never even considered buying a Vita because of the proprietary memory. I will not support that crap with my wallet.

I too never understood how they could think the $2/gig memory card price would ever go over well. There's no reason for the cards to be that much more expensive than normal every sd cards. I only picked up the Vita back when Fry's had a $50 off deal and someone on Craig's list was willing to part with their memory card for cheap. Unfortunately it spends most of it's time collecting dust in my work bag but that's another story.

Lot's of selling out alright. That screen is trash. I miss when new models meant a step upwards. Now it means a step downwards.

You can back up your games to a PC, saves and all. I thought you could do it with the PS3 too

It's not that the system sucks.

It's not the games or lack of games.

It's ripping people off with the stupid memory cards and people saying FU.

People aren't THAT dumb Sony.

They should have taken this redesign opportunity to use micro SD. They didn't, and so Vita will continue to falter.

The only reason I haven't gotten one is because of the ridiculous memory card prices. If not for that I would've bought one at least a year ago. I'm a sucker for these kinds of things.

I dunno. They patted themselves on the back for successfully small clausing the little "tidbit" of how their free PSN server was going to become pay only without gamers getting into an uproar about it.

What are they selling for on Ebay?

The memory cards? About the same. There's very few bargains to be had unless they're used. Then you're taking a gamble because flash has a finite number of write cycles.

The problem is there aren't any third party companies making them, unlike with Memory Stick. So Sony has a complete monopoly. If you want a Vita, you have to buy the cards from them. It's the same BS that HP et al use when selling inkjet printers.

I bought an 8GB card with it and what I do is just transfer games onto my computer. It's a pain in the arse but no way am I paying $80 for 32GB of storage. Even enterprise grade SSDs can be had for less $$/GB than that.

Well, got mine yesterday and played P4G for about 30 minutes. I never used an OG Vita so I guess I don't really have much to compare it against. The screen seems fine to me, and it fits pretty well in my long bony hands. The weight feels pretty perfect; I was expecting it to be weightless like my old Wonderswan Color (lol right) after hearing people complain how 'cheap' it felt, but I think any heavier and it'd be tiring after a multi-hour session.

I didn't try Borderlands 2 yet because I'm debating whether I want to keep it or try to sell / trade it somehow. It's just not really my type of game. I think I'd rather have Dragon's Crown or FFX/X-2.

I have been wondering about that. How DID Sony get away with that one?

Cause for all the rest of the stuff they did right, No DRM, no used game blocking etc etc and slapping Microsoft in the face multiple times at E3...people got over having to subscribe to PSN+ for online play. In the grand scheme of things that fact is so minor and unimportant, people just ignored it. A lot of people assumed that this also meant that Sony would be maintaining the PSN service better and fixing the lingering issues since they are now asking for money to use it for online gaming.

Plus you have to consider the fact that PSN+ subscribers get games to play every month for PS3/PS4/Vita so it has value beyond "I can now play online and use netflix".
