Searched to see if there was an on-going thread that updated new viruses, and didn't see one, so hopefully i'm not duplicating efforts. We received this for our systems and thought i would relay it to others.

RED ALERT: An Agency of USDA has reported a new strain of a Bot program being distributed via email. It is received with the following email address: "From: Greeting@123Greetings.com" (DO NOT OPEN THIS ATTACHMENT - more info will come later)

That message came from our IT staff; limited info and the attacked system probably recieved it from a bulk mailing from the initially infected system. When more information is released i'll try to update this thread.

Because warnings are nice but if there was a warning of every 'new' virus the board would be spammed with them. I could be wrong but I don't think this is a 'major outbreak'.

most of the normal virus don't get into our systems, so when one does manage it, the word is immediately spread to all users. thought that info might be useful to others

Exactly, we would have a few dozen new threads a day about this. How about this, if its not rated sever or critical by Symc, McA, or one of the others we don't bother (good intentions or not)

Of course, this is without even getting into the fact that the alert you mentioned was from *2003*

Oh good, I was wondering whether or not that virus was actually making into your network. Looks like I'm getting better at this virus thing  Alright, anyone'll give me 20¢ per zombie?

All this type of thread does is provide meaningfull stastics at the number of idiot computer depts out there that allow local admin rights and have crappy virus filtering in place.
