New Video Card - Will I be bottlenecked?

Oh either card is a great choice. I would probably buy that XFX card as well. I'm just making sure you understand that you won't be overclocking to 1000 core or something but as long as you don't expect that then you won't be disappointed.

Yeah - I do not plan on overclocking it. It should have more than enough horsepower at stock speeds. I just want something that will last and that will work well.

Oh come on man you know you at least want to overclock it a *little* 😛 I can't stand having hardware in my case running at stock speed when I know that I can get more out of it for free. It just feels wrong!

So I have another question. I have heard mixed reviews about XFX's RMA service and customer support.

Have any of you had first-hand experience with them? If so, could you share your experiences?

I have always bought cards made by EVGA (for NVIDIA) but if I switch to ATI then obviously I do not have that luxury. Is XFX comparable or somewhat like EVGA when it comes to service?

I have been burned by ATI many times but that amount of power for that price is hard to beat. I suspect this price will go down even further once the new NVIDIA cards settle in a bit.

i got advised that the Gigabyte GTX 470 would be available tomorrow; others would be available within the next week or so. One of the guys on my forum has researched it and is getting one and he posted this.

Gigabyte- 4/5
Asus and Zotac- 4/9
EVGA and Galaxy- 4/12
MSI and PNY- 4/16

i haven't verified it .. but it's a heads up

By "burned", I mean that I have owned three ATI cards in my life. One was a 9600, one was a 9800 PRO, and one was a x1950 Pro. All three under-performed and also ran extremely hot. I ended up returning all of them and replacing them with NVIDIA cards.

I have heard so many good things about the HD 4 and 5 series that I wanted to give them a shot again.

However, If I am going to get a more reliable card (and warranty) by just waiting to buy a GTX 470 through EVGA, then I may just do that.

-The reliability is still an unknown as far as the GTX4xx series is concerned at this point, although EVGA's warranty program is pretty much unmatched no one can deny.

Given what is being said about the 4 series availability, you may also have to wait quite a bit, as well.

As far as performance is concerned, you'd see it regardless of which side of the fence you fall. Given your long running history with ATI, it certainly doesn't hurt to wait a little bit to see if NV's offering is sweeter.

Keep in mind though that its like night and day between ATI's 9800 drivers and ATI's 5800 series drivers.
