Update *** It was in IRQ conflict. I went into the bios and put 11 as reserved so it kicked the multimedia controller to 10**

I have an abit av8.

Videocard is an evga 7800gs
previous card was a BFG 6800oc which works fine

I don't think it is a power problem sine I unplugged ebverything else except for the hard drive and also tried increasing the agp voltage

It posts fine then when it is supposed to boot into windows the screen goes blank and then the monitor goes into power save mode

Boot into VGA mode... Then from there install the drivers for the new system. F8 for the menu I believe, before you get the splash screen part.

what? Safe mode? It won't boot into safe mode, I tried already. and why would I have to reinstall drivers?

I am upgrading from an nvidia 6800 to an nvidia 7800gs they use the same drivers.

VGA mode is specifically for troubleshooting video problems, and it loads everything normally except the video card, and though they use the same drivers, it is always a good idea to install the current drivers for what ever device, since while the driver package is the specific configuration might be different.

But all this doesn't matter if it can't boot into safe mode either. Do you even get to the splash screen?

Well, if you have another system to test the card, I would try it there, but if not, I would say it is safe to say there is a problem with the card itself...
