new video card not working on a new HP pc

Hi to start this off i wanna say that this is my first time trying to customize a pc. Recently i purchased the p6280t.

the specs are listed there and i have all the basic stuff. Integrated graphics, windows 7 home premium edition, Q300 etc.
I bought a radeon HD 4670 1GB DDR3 and a Corsair 400w psu. I've installed the psu successfully it was very easy with no problems at all. Now the problem that i have is with the video card. When i try to slide in the video card it wont lock in and secure itself with that plastic lever or whatever. Isn't it supposed to? Its very loose and I believe it will fall off if it wasnt for the back of the case the chassis where part of the video card sticks out. And i know its the right slot! The PCIe x16. I've been looking all over google and couldnt find anything relating to my problem..

lolz newegg has deactivated the product you posted, but I know what card you're talking about.

most likely this is HP's fault with their proprietary hardware and whatnot. Are you upgrading to 4670 from an older card or onboard graphics?

In most cases, if you don't move your computer around alot I don't see this to be a major problem as long as you screw in the end of the card ot the backplate of the case. Of course I've seen some cases that aren't perfectly aligned and could put pressure on the card that may pop it out of the socket if the clip isn't secure.

First though you should at least test if the computer would boot and run. Place it on its side withe the card sticking up so gravity won't pull it out or whatnot.

Just last night I performed the exact same upgrade to my sister in law's HP that they had bought a year ago. Look at the manual:

Check out the section on removing and replacing add in cards. (Page 27) It does show you exactly how to install the video card. What was interesting to me was the HP was backward from every PC I have ever built (more than a half dozen) or upgraded (probably a couple of dozen). Looking at the front of the PC, all the PC's I have worked on opened from the left side, while the HP had to have the right side cover removed. Then the video card had to mounted UPSIDE DOWN to get it to be able to use the connector gizmo. Very strange, but it was the only way it could be mounted on the motherboard. Seems like the heat sink will be a great place for dust to collect, but at least the heat will rise upward toward the top of the case where that 120 mm fan on the Corsair 400W PS can help exhaust it. Be sure to lock the latch back on the back and screw it in tight. Just to reassure you, I got it in and it works great. Their 4 boys were totally thrilled to see Star Wars Force Unleashed running at 1440x900 resolution, smooth as glass with all the eye candy. Their old Geforce 9300 GE could only run 800x600 and was a slide show.

btw does it matter that it takes up 2 slots. I'll be talking to a hp technician soon but it looks like ill just have to return it...could it be a DOA. I have another pc with a PCIe x16 slot but+i dont think im going to be trying out my video card on it because its broken and only works time to time and wouldnt want to break the card and not be able to get a refund. please help. Another thing my installation guide says to secure the mounting bracket of the graphics card to the chassis with a screw ....the problem to that is there IS NO SLOT on the chassis to do this. its not designed like this for example www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPB_uY00_yg. jeez this is pissing me off so much.

Do you have that removable bracket, did you take it off, or what?
