New VGA 5 Chart at Tom's

Sweet thank you soooo much 🙂

Edit:

Doh spoke too soon.

Dang it Tom get off your butt and make it right 😛

There is no 6800nu listed and lots of people are deciding between the 6800nu and the 6600GT. I cant find a side by side benchmark comparison of those cards anywhere.

And the 6600 GT SLI is not looking that good. Being beat in some benchs by the X700 and still not getting close to GT speed in most high end cases.

Hmm bottom line? Ati cards are standing up pretty dang strong. They took a good punch in the gut here recently but seem to be getting right back on track pretty well (That X850 XT PE looks to be a smoking fast card). Now if they will ever rewrite OpenGL drivers from the ground up. 🙁

Not that it matters, I have went back to the dark side, or the light side, or which side is the underdog now so I know which side I am on? Cant wait for my 6800oc to get here 🙂

Actually i remember a review with them both. I think it was the 6600gt review on... I dont remember what site. The bottom line was that the 6600gt was slightly worse off then the 6800nu under most conditions. If the prices are the same, or a difference of lets say $20, it seemed that the 6800nu was the better buy. It also increased its lead as settings incresed.

-As far as the article goes, i wish they would use more games like in vga3 where they had like 12 games all benchmarked.

6600GT is just a little slower than the 6800NU in most games but is much slower at higher resolutions and with AA and AF enabled. The 6600GT is a great card but is not as future proof as a 6800 series card.

Wow that's weird. The 6800GT and Ultra sometimes perform better than them in SLI?? Something wrong?

More overhead from SLI and it's CPU-bound.

Also some games don't support SLI.
You're getting mixed up between SLI and SMP. Games don't support SLI, the video card, drivers and motherboard are what support SLI. It is completely transparent to the game.

As far as the benchmarks go, DAMN, if you have an SLI setup with a 6800 GT or Ultra, 1600x1200 4X AA and 8X AF are where ALL games can be played at. I never thought it would come so soon. When the Voodoo 5s came out, I thought it would be AWESOME if I could just play all my games at 1024x768 4X AA with reasonable frame rates. I could only do 800x600 at 4XAA with my V5 5500 with SOME games, and the frame rate wasn't that great either. I thought 1024x768 4XAA was a loooong way off.

Anyway, the SLI solution is REALLY awesome! I'm impressed.
