Why does it make a difference which one is standard and which is the option?? I doubt $915 matters to someone buying a $50k car.

If you charge a premium for the optional transaxle, then you want to maximise the number of people choosing the optional item. Since 65% of buyers choose the automatic, GM will make more money on a price premium for the automatic than they did on the manual.

Well, that's one way to jack up the price.

Aren't automatic transmissions usually more expensive?

When 2/3 of your sales are automatics when it's the standard, and then you turn around and make that an option for $1000, you are doing it to bump up the price of your sales.

I suppose you're right, I guess I'd rather know why the manual transmission was an "option" for the last 20 years. Even though they are doing it to bump the price of the car up, that really doesn't bother me. If you go into a Chevy dealership to buy a Corvette and feel ripped off because they slipped that extra $1000 in for the transmission, you're an idiot. Who would plan on buying a $40-50,000 car without knowing what it comes with? If you go into the dealership knowing how much they want for it and how much you're willing to pay for it, then why does it matter how the price is broken down?

Edit: And I'll echo the previous statements by saying that only a pvssy would drive a sports car with an automatic transmission. ;)

Transaxle? It's a corvette, not a civic.

The transmission is mounted in the rear with the rear axle.

Yup, much better for weight distribution. The C5 had a transaxle setup too.

Yeah I know it makes sense for GM. I want to know why buyers are in an uproar.

After owning a manual Z28 (first manual of mine), I will NEVER go automatic unless I'm getting a truck or SUV. An automatic sports car is like a laptop with 8 keys.

I don't care if the automatic is actually faster by .2s in the 0-60 (happening more and more now), I still want manual.

People don't deserve a Corvette because they have a difference transmission preference than you? Strange.

And I suppose those guys who build street rods with their own two hands aren't real 'car enthusiasts' if they choose to mate an automatic with their high performance engine, both of which they rebuilt and tuned themselves, but some sissy who doesn't know where the oil goes is a real 'car enthusiast' because he buys a sports car with a manual?

Weeeeee, look at me, I shift the gears. I'm a boy racer!

Do you pretend your commute to and from work is a race course or something? What a bunch of posers.
