New Verizon Phone

Family finally moved back from Germany and added a line to our existing family plan (was my sister and I because of college) which was 2 yrs old and due for a renewal. When visiting me last week my dad told me that when I go back to school in the fall I have a $50 credit to upgrade to a new phone with.

I'm currently sporting a razr which has faithfully served me but it's definitely time for an upgrade. I've been thinking of going BB but don't know what the addition of a data plan would cost me (current plan is 450min + 250 texts). I could go with a 8830 for free with the credit or I could stick with one of the regular phones. Any advice?

I'll be using it while at school as well as coaching for my schools novice men's rowing team (they won't reimburse tho since it's voluntary).

Don't get an 8830, it sucks and you will regret it. The BB Tour which is replacing that will be out sometime around 7/13/09. It will be the best BB on VZW for a while IMO.

The curve is a great phone, but it's still pretty old at this point. Advantage of a curve though is you can get them really cheap.

The curve is cool for it's price ($50 to free [using your credit] with 2 yr. contract). This is what I have currently.

The Tour is similar to the curve (form factor) but upgraded in every way (Rev A. vs. Rev 0. EVDO [faster 3G], better keyboard, unlocked GPS [rumored], 480x360 screen vs 320x240, way better processor, more application memory and RAM, better software [for now until the curve gets OS 5.0 eventually], better camera [3.2 MP with auto focus], world phone [works on GSM networks as well as CDMA]). Like boomhower it will probably be $200 after rebates with 2 yr.
