New V-6 to play a key role in Ford powerplant plan

Wonderful. Another Ford engine with $140 sparkplug wires. Yay.

After my 4.6 stint, I'll stick with common engines. I got tired of the cost, and having to order parts that should have been in ANY auto parts store. Still, it sounds like a pretty beefy engine with respectable HP ratings. Sounds like a good candidate for a good blower. Although, if I had my way, I'd like to tinker around with that Audi A8 powerplant. 330+ HP stock. 🙂

One thing I don't get is why the heck do I have to pay 13.00 a quart for
manual tranny fluid for my 5 speed on my 99 S-10 🙁

WHAT?!?!?!?! Manual tranny juice = 75W90 Gear oil. Gear oil is cheap.
 
I kinda like the new Jeep/Dodge 4.7's path that they took. All those wires and hoses down by the exhaust are for the O2 sensors. Nothing else. Sparkplugs? They are pointing straight up, all you have to do is remove a single nut, pull the coil off (yep, no high voltage wires) and there they are. Right beside the injectors. It's a maintenance dream.

Why can't they engineer more engines like that?

As far as "wtf?" maintenance costs go, check out the Ferrarri Enzo:
12.1 quarts of 5w60 synthetic oil at $60/quart ($752 is an oil change, not a repair)
If you don't use thier oil, the warrentee is off, and you'll have to pay $200,000 to replace the engine.
$6000 brake pads, per wheel. If you swap the rotors too you just dropped $60,000 for the ability to stop.

That's making the $60 oil changes for my dad's Cummins seem cheap (14 quarts of deloil)

I just don't see the relevance of the expense of your tranny fluid to a ford engine, as your OBVIOUSLY have a chevy engine.
