I believe this is my first deal :)

Deal linky: http://hhgregg.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=10667

22 channels + 38 sub privacy channels, GMRS and FRS frequencies.

I've searched froogle up and down and HHGregg has absolutley the best deal on a pair two-ways atm. Buy.com has a vast low cost selection but nothing compared to this.

I think there's a site-wide free shipping promo so be sure to give HHGregg a good browse.

have fun with your new toys

from experience..uniden 2 ways are really crappy. i'd be lucky to get 1/2 mile range out of these.. Cobra radios are much better. Not worth the $18. Unless you're gonna give them to the kids..

yeah, 3 mile range is just a pipe dream for low power frs radios. IRL, you're gonna have much, much less.

Probably right about the 3mi is actually < 1 mi. Anyone try the 7 or 10 mi radios? Can any of them actually make it a few miles?
Do you think these would work running around disneyland or even out camping in the trees? My Motorla's can go maybe 2 miles in the woods and they are rated 3 mi I believe.

I have this exact set. While they work pretty well, I'd say ~1 mile is TOPS on a good day-more like 3/4 a mile or so by my best estimate. The sound quality IS a bit better than a pair of 4 year old Cobras I had previously. The buttons on the Unidens are small but still easy to press. Volume is good as well, especially considering the small size of the units. Build quality seems pretty solid though.

Only caveat is battery life. It drops drastically if you use these things with the volume turned up, even with good quality alkalines. Still not bad for <$20 shipped though. I don't like the LCD screen on these--not backlit and reminds me of some of those "wannabe trendy" cheap digital watches .

I have motorolas while skiing and its about a half mile to 3/4 mile range at best on mountain terrain. None of them seem to do well when its hilly.

Actually, these would probably make great Christmas/Chanukah? Hannukah? Khanukkah? - stocking stuffers.
Get them for your own use (hunting, hiking, convoying, etc.) and if they work out - great.
If they do not meet your needs, give them as a present. Somebody will love them. :D:D:D
