New Tyan K8WE may not have SLI bridge cable

Talked to Tyan, they have not yet decided if they will include the SLI bridge/cable in the K8WE mobo box. Oddly, they said they might offer it as an orderable option. Which means if you get the new board, you may have to order the SLI bridge before you can fully utilize the SLI functionality.

Anyone get this board yet? Please comment. There are no real 3rd party SLI bridge cables available yet that could be used on this board.

I just got a k8we today and to my dismay it does not include an SLI connector. While installing the board I scanned the manual for signs of SLI and didn't even see it mentioned. SLI is a novelty... SMP + PCI-X + PCI-E is just good stuff.

RE: ATI... They should (imho) work on releasing a functional linux driver before they try to one-up SLI. 🙂

Me and my mate's board didnt include one either, but I found someone in Japan who sold them and got a dozen of them as they cost about $10 each, (wasn't worth getting just one for the EMS post cost).

If you want to buy one and can't find one let me know I'll sell you one for $10 + whatever it costs to post it.

Hmmm. According to sales at XXXXXXXXX, the Tyan k8we doesn't support SLI. Let me find
the email and quote directly:

"Tyan has created a huge mess. This motherboard is not currently
supporting SLI. They are advertising it as a SLI motherboard, but it is not
at the moment.

Right now you can put two video cards in this motherboard and it will
support four monitors.

They hope to soon have a BIOS update that will allow SLI connectivity,
and will release an SLI bridge for this motherboard.

There has been mass confusion with this subject, and I hope they will
soon have this resolved."

I am currently running the board with two PCIE video cards with Fedora Core 3. If anyone
is having problems getting X configured, heres a link to my xorg.conf.

The distance between PCIEx16 slots on a given board varies by manufacturer. Even if you do acquire such a bridge, the msg above states that the k8we will still not function in SLI mode.

Ack.

It's not an SLI board in its primary target audience. Above all, that's a workstation board that finally enables people to use multiple graphics cards without having to compromise on their throughput. Previously you'd have one on AGP and the other(s) on PCI. There are people who actually want/need to use more than one 3D rendering engine and have them render to different screens ...

Ahh, I got some bridges from japan that fit and as soon as I put it in the next time windows rebooted it came up and said you can enable SLI and my benchmarks jumped up accordingly.

SLI *DOES* work as soon as you bridge the cards so stop spreading disinformation. Like some Sales guy at XXXXX has a clue...

Hi,
Do you still have any of the sli bridge cables left for sale - i desperately need one.

Has anyone tried any aggresive ram modules on this mobo, i was thinking of trying ocz pc3500 cas2 reg ecc (designed for athlon 64) but dont know it it will work on a K8WE ??

I've put 8 HyperX 1Gig modules in mine, they are supposed to be 2.5 but the bios detected them at CL3 and I haven't overridden it yet until I'm sure all other aspects of the machine are stable. I might try setting them to 2.5 tonight.

Here ya go

My rig

Close up of SLI bridge

Screenshot showing SLI enabled

I would have run a benchmark but I've just re-installed on new raptors... No idea why it comes up with only 2gig RAM in 32bit as 64bit comes up 8gig no problem *shrug*

As I said in a earlier post, i have another 10 or so of these bridges sitting around so if anyone is stuck for finding one, let me know and I'll send you one, cost about $10.

My guess: You need to enable PAE mode.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833721 (/PAE switch)

But I thought this was enabled by default in XP Service Pack 2. For the no-execute support to work, PAE mode is required.

Cheers, I added the /PAE switch and now I get 2.5Gig instead of 2.0. I've had *zero* luck installing XP x64 on a striped raid (I got further when using default nvraid stripesize instead of selecting it myself) so looks like I'm going to have to lose hardware raid if I want to dual boot and be able to use my full 8 gig of ram...
