I don't understand how you can recommend a TV that has poor black levels and poor contrast ratios. The only time I would recommend Westinghouse/Vizio/Olevia is if the person wanted a cheap flat TV.

For $1800 I would recommend getting a Sharp LC-46D62U, Sony KDL-40V2500 or Samsung LN-S4052D.

my thoughts exactly. They can even be found cheaper. My local store has them for 1100, and no tax either. I have this TV and it's the best money I ever spent.

primary use is movies and tv

I'd go Plasma then. I just think they offer a much more "natural" picture than LCD. For the size you are looking at, 1080p just really isn't worth the extra cost.

You could easily get into a Panasonic 42" plasma for around $1200-$1400.

And I don't understand how someone can recommend one LCD that has horrible banding issues, and 1 LCD that generally has severe backlight issues. The Samsung may be okay, although its a 720p. I don't know much about it. 🙂

Because not every Sharp, Sony or Samsung has those problems while every Westinghouse does have contrast and black level problems.

wait whats wrong with DLP? all the TV's are cheaper. Do they last less time?

Main things are bad viewing angle and they're all RP so you need to do bulb replacement.
