So I guess my digital camera with about 10 battery packs and like 40 lithium AA batteries for my flash unit is not going to fly?

So if I duct tape my extra battery to my laptop does that mean it's installed?
Fucking idiots at the TSA. What a worthless organization.

Get NiMh cells for the flash. WTF kind of camera do you have that you need to travel with 10 batteries? Our 30D can take thousands of pictures on just the two batteries in the vertical grip.

Spare laptop batteries are acceptable in carry-on baggage, per the original link.
Here is a method for calculating equivalent lithium content.
http://www.prba.org/battery_ba..._ion_faqs/Default.ashx
Using the example there, a couple of spare laptop batteries will be well below the 25 gram equivalent limit.
http://safetravel.dot.gov/whats_new_batteries.html
"You can also bring up to two spare batteries with an aggregate equivalent lithium content of up to 25 grams, in addition to any batteries that fall below the 8-gram threshold. Examples of two types of lithium ion batteries with equivalent lithium content over 8 grams but below 25 are shown below."
