As of 5 minutes ago, I have placed orders for a Dell 2407 widescreen LCD and a Diamond Radeon HD 2900XT.

I'll post my experiences with them on them when they arrive.

Incidentally, how exactly does one check to see whether or not the panel is a S-IPS or PVA? I could google it, but . . .I'm lazy.

I just pulled the trigger on the Acer AL2051W. I've been wanting to do that for a while. My poor Dell 17" CRT will be retired.

I read about that...that's teh suck.

I'm hoping (along with many others) that the 2900 develops better numbers as drivers mature. If that's the case then maybe the next GPU's will drop in price as competition gets better.

Too many people reporting problems and lousy drivers coming at overly lengthy intervals. 4 months between official driver releases, get real. Hire some damn software engineers, you're selling cards for 600 bucks and 830 bucks, you can afford to hire a few more programmers Nvidia.

As opposed to the perfect HD 2900xt drivers? I've had little to none driver problems w/ my GTS and I bought it in march.

Oh there are definitely problems with drivers for 8800 cards. You can't even control fan speed with the 158.xx driver for WinXP. I bought my 8800 card around when it came out and I couldn't even play Splinter Cell: Double Agent because of a driver problem. I also had issues with Gothic 3 and a couple of other games. There are still shadow issues as well with some games for me. I have never had so much trouble with drivers and for that reason my next card will more than likely be an ATI card, unless of course I hear of loads of driver problems popping up in forums.

Regardless of whether I bought the card when it first came out or not, I expect to be able to play games on it, considering I payed almost $600 CAD back then...I don't wanna be a beta tester for NVidia.

i run a 7950GTX and im still getting hard locks and total crashes in a lot of games including DOD:S which is pretty much always up to date. I wish ATI always had notebook versions available.

Bah, the estimated ship date for my 2407 panel is June 14.

Not sure if it will take that long, but hopefully it may mean that I'll get the latest revision, A04, I think.

They never take that long, so don't worry. It is always the worst case scenario.

I have all of my new toys waiting in my storage area and will not get to install them until Sunday at the earliest.

Pretty sure you will. im on my 3rd replacement and ive gotten all A04's.

All 2407WFP are S-PVA panels, there are no 24inch S-IPS from Dell, I think NEC is the only one to make one and it's expensive.

I bought mine in late March from Dell Canada ($649CDN shipped on Dells Days of Deals, woo) and it is an A04, that is all they ship now. It took about a week from the day I ordered to arrive at my door, even though the est. ship date was 2 or 3 weeks from the order date.

RE: 8800 issues, the only ones I've run into are:

1) Flat panel scaling is broken in all 8800 drivers. There is a hotfix that lets you force it on via a registry hack (which breaks HDCP, but that doesn't matter to me right now). The problem is, scaling gets broken whenver you use an app with video overlay (e.g. playing a video file in Windows Media Player) so I have to reboot all the damn time to use scaling for 4:3 games.

2) Lost Planet hard locks on 158.22 drivers. I don't want to fiddle with beta drivers (162.03) so I'm waiting for a new set. Anyone know if 158.27 fixes this?

3) In all drivers I've tried, in TES4: Oblivion, the shader for the oblivion gate clips over all objects (e.g. I can see the distortion from the gate through trees etc. from far away).

2005FPW. Decent panel in its own right. Mine had the back light bleed issue, but it wasn't noticeable.

I've wanted a larger panel since about a week after I got the 20in.

Well, if the visual quality is noticeably subpar, then I'll return it and get a refund. I've heard a lot of good things about the 2407 though.

yea the 2407 is great. You wont be disappointed at all. As for the 8800 issues, I haven't had any problems in anything I run or play so im good with it. Good luck with the ATI card, I like ATI, but for the price/performance for the 8800gts you cant beat it. Waiting for the new cards this fall

Oh, it anyone is interested, its a Diamond brand card. I think they are all the same though.

Hmm, I must say that I am very disappointed in Diamond. First, there was missing hardware in the package, the molex to PCIe power connectors were missing. Secondly, the bottom prongs on the backplate were slightly bent, preventing installation of the card properly. Given the nature of the bend and the way it was packaged, I seriously doubt it was bent during shipping. After I used my pliers to bend the bottom prongs straight, the card when in smooth as butter. It extends all the way to the edge of my motherboard, an IN9 32X Max.

Also, the addition of a 40mm fan to the Abit copper heat sinks also dropped the PWM temps by a few degrees.
