My dad owned a tree business for 25 years and as long as I can remember, he swore by Husqvarna saws. They're good stuff!

Dunno exactly what you've got there, or if they've got a shitbag consumer line like so many other companies, but the commercial stuff we used worked well. Other than our hydraulic pole saws, it was all Husky. Congrats and work safely!

Research was good to me once again 🙂

The Husky 435 is the most inexpensive made in Sweden saw Husky makes, anything below the 435 is a rebadged Poulan :hmm:
 
Ugh. Chainsaws aren't anywhere near toys IMO. Every time I've ever used one it was hard work. It was cool using a chainsaw the first time, after that it was just work.

I got a Poulan with an 18" bar for Christmas a year or so ago. It sucks donkey balls. I was using it today & it would just slowly start winding down & die, almost like it was running out of gas. Air filter is fine, I flushed out all the gasoline in it & replaced it with fresh gasoline (fresh mix.) Same problem. As soon as it started getting hot, it would die. Plus, it's too small for me; I need a longer bar fairly often.


Got my eye on a Jonsered 24" at an Amish dealer up the road from me. Lots of power in that puppy.

I have a crappy Poulan as well. You get what you pay for. My occasional chainsaw usage doesn't justify a real chainsaw. Jealous anyway.
 
Your timing could not be better. Yesterday I limbed a tree down to the trunk witha bow saw. I have a friend with a chainsaw I was going to tap to finish it off. When can you be here?

Exactly how I felt about it working for my dad when he finally let me and I couldn't have been more excited. That lasted about two days lol.

My dad used to have me sharpen chains too and we always did it by hand and by eye. It looks like they make guides or something the file slides in to, but I don't remember ever using those. It actually was the easiest work he ever had me do.

I tell ya, like anyone else I'd think, I'd much rather do that in the shade than drag and chip brush on a 90 degree day.

Sounds like you need to adjust the air-fuel mixture, it is probably running too lean when warm and can't keep the power up.

This is exactly the reason I bought from a local dealer, not a big box store 🙂 I can take it in there any time and know that a guy that knows his shit can fix it, adjust it, whatever needs to be done...

I can say after using it I may ask him if it is adjusted too lean, definitely could have used more power when sawing through 12-14" logs!

Tuning is key!
 
nice! What will you use it for?

My dad promised me that when he found a pink chainsaw, he would teach me. I haven't seen a pink chainsaw yet and I have feeling he doesn't really want me messing with them. I can operate a log splitter though!
 
i only buy stihl saws, but i use them for long periods of time. I used to have a McCullough saw, biggest pile of crap ever.

Not entirely true. The XP saws (pro line) are Swedish made. I bought a 346XP last year and that saw rips--and that's with one of those crappy low kickback safety chains on it. I want to get a full chisel chain and see what it'll really do.

Hmmm, that might be it. It's definitely a fuel problem. I'll have to tinker around with it tomorrow. My other Poulan had trouble with the oil pump. They're decent for occasional use, but not really built to last. I wouldn't have purchased a 2nd Poulan, but it was a Christmas gift. Next one definitely won't be a Poulan - and if it's another gift, I'll return it to the store.

12-14" logs... aren't those cuuuu-uute! This is the pain in the ass that I dealt with this week.

Splitting those logs was a bitch. Quite a few knots in it. That tree will heat my house for 2 months (at least.) I haven't even attempted to estimate how many cords of wood I've got - I'll be hauling the piles of split wood to the back yard and stacking tomorrow.

btw, gostumpy, I still have about 8-10 feet left of the main trunk to cut up tomorrow. I've got a few six packs in the fridge, bring your chain saw over and brews are on me! 😀
I'll even cook a few steaks.
