One of our customers will shortly be ordering a new server and shipping it here. Of course I'll have to hot-stage it and install our software on it (and test it's stability by running Seti on it while it's here...). It's just a little guy... Quad 1.6 GHz Xeons.

😀😀😀

It'll only be temporary (it will leave here in early June) but it should provide the USS Ohio with a considerable boost while it's here...

Is this the kind of rig that can do WUs in "a few minutes"?

If not, do any of you know what type of computer can do that? A cray or SGI or what?

Not sure about the cache size. They haven't ordered the hardware yet, but my recommendation to them was to get as large a cache size per CPU as they can afford. For the application they'll be running on it, the more cache, the better it will perform.

No, this won't do wu's in a few minutes, but I'm just making a swag in saying that this rig will probably crunch around 25 - 30 per day, give or take a few wu's. That will more than double my current output.

Hey Smokeball, I think this system might be something that you might want to look into.

Uh, Fingers, I don't know what kind of connection you're on but the link you posted goes to an .mpg of 391 Megs!! :Q You sure that's the right link?

yep, gotta agree with NWM on this one 😉

are you on OC-48?

yep, It's a very interesting video. I'm on cable and I'm able to watch it while it's downoading without any stuttering.

well I just tested at dslreports andI got 3032 up / 565 down 😱 edit: oops I mean 3032 down / 565 up

maybe you can find some smaller files here

the only one I viewed was the 410 MB file.

Gotta love this quote from that link.

"... The SV2 system uses processors that are as fast if not more so than the processors available today....The SV2 will profitably use hundreds of thousands of these processors...."

:Q OMG! And he says that with a totaly straight face! Should we offer to test it for him?

Lol. The cooling is done by liquid florene, as the Cpu's put out 82 watts per sq cm, and the die is 64 sq cm's 😛 That's some serious wattage!

Each CPU does 10 Gigaflops, with 4 cpu's on each chip, with 4 chips in a node, with a total of 1024 nodes! 168,340 Gigaflops! OMG!

If I remember correctly, a Seti WU takes about 3 GigaFlops to complete, so that SV2 machine at full capacity would do over 55,000 Wu's GAH! I think that would use all of berkley's new 100 mbit Bandwith 😛

OMG that.s an insane machine!:Q:Q😀😀😎😎.............how much is it?😉

Btw even the low bandwidth vid is too much for 56k dialup🙁
