Can't wait for the posts regarding:

- Clarkson's war comments
- Clarkson's ZR1 comments

Otherwise the show was pretty meh for me and I'm a die hard TG fan. The whole electric car segment could have finished at the point they 'accidentally' let it roll into a tree. They should have done a longer section on the ZR1, expanding it to at least the length of the R8 V10 segment.

I lol'd hard when he poked the back of the ZR1. <awaits 'dash stroker' comments>

I haven't watched the video yet, but let me guess. He pokes the back end of the Vette and complains how cheap it is because it's made of plastic. He did the same thing when they reviewed the base Vette a couple years ago. I love watching Top Gear, but some times Clarkson is too stupid to get out of his own way. It's soft plastic because the entire rear-end is made into a bumper. That's what you get when you have to meet federal crash guidelines and want a flat hind end.

I was watching this with 2 other friends and when they briefly flashed the Vette, we all screamed like little kids on Christmas...lol

lol zr1 beat awd r8 on a damp track.

clarkson is hilarious, somehow he always manages to break something on an american car.

oh i also love how being wide is a negative, mainly because it's only .9" wider than the R8.

good entertainment, but pretty lame review. he rides on the corvette the entire time and then tries to redeem himself by picking it over the r8.

idk about the rest of you, but id rather have a v8 r8. better balanced and much cheaper.

I heard the "wider" comment too but didn't look at dimensions. the ZR1 is only 0.9" wider? Wow, it looks a lot wider than that. Clarkson must have great visual measurement skills - lots of practice from looking at his inch-long junk every day.

From what I could tell his bitching was because he suddenly forgot how to drive a 2wd car in damp conditions. However, if you look at his August review of the ZR1, he loved it.

I'm a big fan of the show but Clarkson's anti-americanese is really get annoying. He said the ZR1 is faster in a straight line "because its made of plastic". Well if he had done his research, he would know the ZR1 is made mostly from aluminium and carbon fiber.

He also complained about how it handles. Well here is a quote from Motor Trend: "The new high-end magnetic suspension system enables the ZR1 to deliver great handling and grip to achieve 1.10G of average lateral acceleration, which is more than an Enzo Ferrari"

I mean seriously? Well I'm glad he likes it, but he doesn't have to keep saying that its cheap quality.

I like the regular R8, but it's still pretty damned expensive, about the same price of a ZR1 IIRC.

Yep, it starts at $115k : http://www.edmunds.com/audi/r8/2009...r8+101017620+style+review+page&mktid=ik344168

For that kind of money, it should perform like a near-supercar. Instead, it gets trounced by the CTS-V and Z06 at double the price, and is a near-match for the base 911.

It does look nice though.

For cars in this segment, it's kind of pointless to complain about largely irrelevant stuff. The interiors of the Lambos are still pretty horrendous, but that doesn't make them any less awesome.

I'm not talking interiors, I'm talking flappy bodywork. The Elise doesn't have this issue and it's sold in the US. The 'excuse' used above by the other poster is just that. An excuse.

Anyhow, quote lateral G's all you want, it's a stupid metric IMHO. Going around in circles on perfect tarmac until you break traction is a one dimensional test. On a road or track you have undulations, turns in the opposite direction, surface changes and many other factors that a suspension has to deal with. Lat G tests do not tell you how a car will handle in that situation.

Anyhow it was not appreciably faster than the R8 even though it had a lot more power. It's great because of it's flaws, that is what everyone appears to have missed in the review. If you put your flags down for one minute and actually listen to what he says you'll see. The Audi is accomplished, but in the end a bit numb. The ZR1 is raw and honest and sometimes that is what a driver wants.

With Clarkson many Americans only hear when he says something to raise your hackles. What you probably never hear is that for every jibe against your cars or your country, there are 20 at his, and my, own.

You can now return to rabble rousing and flag waving. :D

when has clarkson said anything bad about aston martin? Sure they make gorgeous cars, but they have problems too.

and besides, the TG presenters are comedians first and car testers second. It's good entertainment but I take what they say with a grain of salt.

Everyone has their little nationalistic moment. It's all jokes and fun guys. You guys take what Clarkson says wayyyyyy too seriously.

Apparently people here aren't capable of seeing the sarcasm he uses when in the cars. The 'faster cause it's made of plastic' was just a jibe at the materials it uses, not exactly being entirely serious.

You obviously missed the part in this episode where Clarkson said "I don't think Aston Martin has made a single great car"...followed by Hammond saying that the DB5 was only famous because of its role as James Bond's car, and was generally rubbish otherwise.

This. Glad someone other than me is actually watching the rest of the show.

Ahem, the TG lap times are a bit sketchy to compare cars like this, although I of course love TG. Would you agree that a course such as Nurburgring Nordschleife would offer a better and more realistic comparison, given that the course has a LOT of track imperfections and a great combo of tight curves and great straights? If so :

Audi R8 4.2L Nurburgring Nordschleife time : 8:04
ZR1 Nurburgring Nordschleife time : 7:26

That difference is EPIC. Still, The R8 does well, it's right around the same times as the 911 GT3 and M3, and noticeably faster than the M5, M6, Cayman S, IS-F, and so on.

A couple of other important ones

C6 Z06 : 7:42
CTS-V : 7:59
GT-R (non-SpecV) : 7:29
