Actually, that will clear the recently opened programs, not the recently opened documents.
Right click the taskbar -> Properties -> Start Menu tab -> Customize -> Advanced -> Clear List
Unchecking the "List my most recently opened documents" will disable this feature.

TweakUI (from Microsoft and FREE) has a "paranoia" section that lets you clear a number of different things at log off without ever having to resort to regedit.couldnt you just download tweakui from microsoft and essentially do that easier than having to hack the registry?
