New to webdesign

I'm currently trying to make my first webpage. I'm using Dreamweaver 8 in code/display split mode. I like to type the code and see it as I change it. I'm trying to use XHTML strict.

However, I'm very new to this and its somewhat confusing. I don't exactly know all the tags and what they do. I was wondering if anyone could show me a few links or recommend a few books. I've been checking W3schools for the most part. Any others?

These links might help. Dreamweaver's built in reference panel is nice too. (it's a tab in the bottom panel) I'll try to answer any questions you have.

http://www.w3schools.com/ is really one of the best. Great tutorials, xhtml, html, css, php, asp, among others. Awesome reference for web builders. Invaluable.
