Our company is needing a piece of software to allow users remote access to one of our servers inside our LAN, and we've decided to go with ultravnc. Before we fully implement this, are there any known security issues/hacks/exploits out there that we should know about?

If I were running that IT Dept. I would have done this research before the decision was made - not right before roll-out... :)

Anyway - UltraVNC seems to be pretty secure, and there are other ways to keep it inside your LAN then just the software. I wouldn't worry about that.

Have you looked into SMS?

actually, the whole project just started today before lunch, so there wasn't a whole lot of prep time to it

No, SMS never came up...we were mainly looking between ultravnc, remote administrator, and dameware. we wanted something light instead of something like pcanywhere, but we still need the security.

I think you would be quite impressed with ultraVNC...

There are enough options and addons that will help you tweak it to your exact needs.
