New to U.S. - where do you buy from?

Just moved to Tampa from Canada (near Toronto) and am trying to find out where to buy parts. I know newegg is big here but as far as I've been able to find they don"t have any locations to go get what I need. Shipping is fine sometimes but there are times when I need a part 5 minutes ago and it would be nice to be able to go out and grab it. Also who are neweggs competitors? I'm assuming they will price match?

Thanks for any help,
Ryan

For what parts specifically? What kind of work do you do that you need parts in 5 minutes?

I'd check if there's a Microcenter or Fry's near you. Those are the safest bets as far as cheap parts at a retailer go. Most shopping is done online via Amazon, Newegg, etc.

frys and microcenter are not in FL, Tiger Direct is though I don't know if they have a Tampa location.

If you want to buy mobos and cpus your best bet is newegg, amazon, TD, etc. as big box retailers don't usually carry that stuff. Everything else you can find in Best Buy (but online shopping is still your best bet).

None of the retailers will match newegg pricing. Tiger Direct might, idk, but Best Buy for sure will not.

Depending on where you live, there might not be a good place to buy components.

We have a Fry's in Austin, which is decent. It doesn't come close to Newegg in price or selection, but they have a small selection of components for not outrageous prices.

I've lived in cities where your best option for components was a Best Buy. Eek.

It's not for work, but to give you an example... I needed a wireless network card this afternoon. I can go to a big box store and pay $35 or order one off of newegg for $15 but then I have to wait a few days for it. I know it sounds whiney, it's just a little inconvenient is all. Thanks for the two suggestions but there isn't anything in my area.

There is a CompUSA store (TigerDirect essentially) in South Tampa and one in Clearwater.. That is probably your best option

Failing the CompUSA/Tigerdirect option, there are probably a couple good local brick & mortar, mom & pop places around. Most largeish cities have a couple.

The US has more places to buy from, and everything is way cheaper. Still would not be enough to convince me to move into the scorching heat though. 😛

So where did you buy cheap parts so close by in Toronto?

What brought you to the lack of healthcare United States?

I'll never buy local if I have any choice in the matter.

if I absolutely have to (for example, a couple months ago, I was in the middle of a work shift working from home when my mouse died), I'll suck it up and go to BestBuy.

B&M computer part shopping has died

If you are buying a complete system its actually not bad but not for parts. If I am going to buy B&M, I go to small computer shops that need the money. I refuse to buy anything I'm not going to return from Best Buy.

Sure, if you have the money on hand for it. Just don't get hurt if you are living paycheck to paycheck.

I lived paycheck to paycheck for 15 years. Always had insurance, so did my son. Was never turned away from a doctor and never missed any prescriptions.

Didn't die either...

Theres plenty of healthcare in the US. Its just not free.
Cuz nothing is free.
EVERYTHING costs money. Whether its you paying, or somebody much more productive and valuable than you paying taxes and the government paying after pissing away half.
