Hey guys, I just started the Crytography DC project (OGR:RC5-72) and I think I've got it all setup right and running, but I'm not sure. Anyone else doing this project, should I see the little cow thing in my tray? I thought I would but I don't, however the process is running and says 92% of the CPU is being used by it, so I'm assuming it's alright.

I've always wanted to do distributed computing and even really read up on a project but it just seems so intimidating to get it all setup, so I chose this one cuz it seemed simple. Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the n00b post.

Welcome to the TeAm! If you set up the client to run as an NT service, then it will continue to run in the background even without someone logged in, and as such will not be visible in the system tray. The other option, if you don't seem to remember doing that, is that the icon might be hidden by Windows XP's hide-inactive-icons "feature."

Welcome to the TeAm, aplefka :)

I have not done RC5-72 so I can't help you with that, but if you ever want to try another project and need help setting it up, just ask here and you will get all the help you need! :D

First of all, welcome to the TeAm :)

You might want to edit you thread title to include "OGR:RC5-72" so the right people can explain the correct setup.

 for the n00b post ;)

Man, horrible timing... yesterday bent pins on my one CPU so now I'm only gonna be able to run it on this computer for the time being. I was going to have it running on two machines but whatever.

I'm pretty sure I had it set up right but I was just double-checking in case I was wrong.

Edit: One question I do have: On the site you can check your statistics but you have to login to change your information. How do I know what my login name/pass is?

Usually with most projects you get that information in an email.

Hmmm... haven't received anything yet. Another thing that's kinda irking me is that I can't set it to only use x amount of CPU. It overheated this system (it's really weak) after only being run for 5 minutes. I wanna keep it going but I can't afford to have a system be endangered by it.

If your system is overheating then you have a problem with it...
Check if the CPU cooler is well and firmly positionned. Check if you still have thermal grease between the CPU and the heatsink.
Check if the fan is running...
If all these points are OK then your system should run smoothly with a correct temperature.
DC projects are pushing the CPU so they are a good test to check if a machine is stable enough.

BTW, Welcome to the team ! :D
