New to overclocking

i heard that the i5-3550 can be overclocked so i need help with a guide or some advice to overclock it

i am using the corsair CX500

asrock extreme4

antec 300 case

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3

MSI R7770-PMD1GD5

G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz with a 212evo

i5 3550 and other locked CPU can be over clocked by its turbo.

Forgot how its done but it is possible.

Change multiplier from "37" to "41" (Max OC available for your *locked* processor)

Locked chips allow for +400 Mhz.

Don't play with the BCLK frequency, since you won't get anything worthwhile from doing so.

You're extremely limited by not buying a 3570K, or other 'K' processor.

That may apply for the 3570, but for my i7 2600 3.4ghz, i can overclock it upto 4.2ghz.



Also, make sure the temperatures aren't too hot. Keep them below 60-70C to avoid problems later.

To be fair 4.1ghz vs ~4.5ghz isnt gonna make much of a difference in anything.

True, extremely was the wrong word, but it is the difference between a 10% OC and a 20% OC.

Yes, +400 like I said.

Your stock turbo is 3.8. Add 4 to the multiplier and you get 4.2.
