I'm trying to overclock my AMD 1800+, I have tried setting the FSB to 166mHz and when I reboot the system, the monitor doesn't turns on and it just hangs. I have tried it till around 147MHz and it runs stable.

Here is my system configuration
AMD 1800+ (bought in June, so I think it's the Palomino core??)
Asus A7V333
Samsung 512MB PC27000 DDR
Asus MX400 64Mb
Creative SB Audigy
3Com NIC, forgot model, something 905...

I am using a TT Volcano 7 heatsink/fan for the cpu now. I am getting 40degrees celcius for the cpu and 21 for the motherboard.

I would like to know is it possible to set the system FSB to 166MHz??

Excalibur, I have the same problem only i can only get to 145mhz on Abit KT7A-raid mobo.

What is the model/stepping of your chip? the 1800s may not run at 166... i am waiting on getting asus a7v8x mobo to really push the chip..... i was playing with heatsink mods and fried the ah heck, so am now using thunderbird 900 @ 1066...

Change your CAS for the ram to 3 instead of 2 (if that is the case) 2 is really aggressive when running high fsbs that the ram may not be cas2@166 rated for... but alot of ram is ok at 2.

I have Model 6, Stepping 2. What does it means anyways?

For my ram, the default settings was 2.5-3-3, I can only choose from 2.5 and 2

Oh well, I'm going to try either unlocking it and also get the newer Tbred XP1800+

I'm kind of in the same boat. My cpu is a tb-a and runs very cool. I wanted to run my system at 10x166MHz (1660MHz), but it's not happy doing it. I am try cas 3 instead of cas 2 or cas 2.5.

Anyway, if you would, give us more information on memory settings.

My current specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ @ 1666MHz (266MHz FSB)
Heatsink: CoolerMaster HSC-V62
Motherboard: MSI KT4 Ultra-SR (Serial RAID)
Memory: 512MB Corsair PC2700 DDR SDRAM (Cas 2)
Video Card: VisionTek Xtasty GeForce4 Ti 4600 128MB DDR

I'd say give it a go with the cas2.5 setting and maybe increase the voltage a LITTLE and see if that can get the ram working ok. After that... i have no idea - havnt got my ddr and mobo yet.

Keep posting of how you are going as i am insterested when i get my gear.

Why can't you set it at 10X166? Is it better to run at a higher FSB and lower multiplier or lower FSB and higher multiplier?

21 for motherboard. Your room is cold. I also have AMD 1800. My room temperature is 28C, motherboard 36C, CPU 46C idle, 55C running.

I guess your cooling isn't good.
