I've done some research and I have done a lot of searching; so please don't assume I haven't. Just looking for some opinions and if I'm going about this correctly, first time doing this! Just looking for some comments/opinions and if I've done this correctly!

Well I just successfully built a new rig, it's been about 5 years since my last newb build.

Quick run down:

Q9550
Rampage Formula
4x2GB mushkin DDR2PC6400
HD4870x2
Xigmatek s1283
750w pcp&c
300gb raptor>boot; wd640>storage

Basically I wanted to attempt an OC to see what the deal was. I simply upped my FSB to 400mhz (1333/4=333mhz stock) with no voltage increase and am running my ram at 400mhz obviously for a 1:1. Set my memory timings for stock, 5-4-4-12 w/ 1.8v. That's all that I have changed to achieve 3.4ghz; and everything is fine and dandy.. I'm just concerned whether or not this is fine; just seems a bit to easy.

I've ran p95 and everything is stable, core's idle around 32-35c and I have yet to see them rise about 48-49c at load. From searching, these temps appear to be very good for such an overclock?

My 4870x2 on the other hand.. runs very hot. I've manually set the fan speed to 60% which keeps it idling at about 45c and have seen a max of 80-85c at load. These temps seem a bit high, but acceptable.

Just looking for comments and opinions please!

How long did you run Prime and what temperature monitor are you using? Did you remember to lock your PCI-e bus?

I'm sure I didn't run it long enough, probably about 30 minutes. I'm using Realtemp with a tjmax set to 100 per intel's release. My pci-e bus is set to 100mhz.. although I dont understand the reason behind this needing to be done? Any explain?

edit: found the reason behind locking it. So yes, I did change it from auto to 100.

If you only ran Prime for half an hour it doesn't mean much. Also, if you've left the CPU voltage on "Auto" you may not be running it with no voltage increase.

You can check your VID or stock voltage with Real Temp (if you're using version 2.75) by looking at the top and going through the tabs until you see VID 1.XXXX or you can download Core Temp 0.99.3 and check your VID.

1.1v at idle and show multiplier at 6x.. then 100% load it ramps up to 1.25v w/ 8.5 multiplier at 3.4ghz

Not even the slightest bit of instability.. seems too easy? Or is that not much of an overclock for my setup? 2.83 to 3.4 seems like a lot without raising vcore, but I'm new to this.

Again, with only 30 minutes of stress testing it doesn't mean a whole lot.
