New to OC... 7970 easy to OC?

I managed to get a great deal on a MSI 7970, and it's currently being shipped to me. I've never done any sort of overclocking, but I was wondering if there are video guides or tutorials that specifically deal with the 7970. I'm not really interested in benchmarks, but just a nice/safe overclock. Is it easy to do?

It's very easy. The MSI 7950's at least usually have high ASIC scores, which means they go quite far with little voltage.

Since you're new to this you probably shouldn't touch voltage yet. Just download MSI Afterburner and see how far you can get on stock voltage. Increase power limit to 20% and increase core clock in 50mhz increments. Check stability in Unigine Heaven and games. That's how I do it anyway.

High ASIC quality just means it runs at a lower stock voltage, but that doesn't necessarily mean overclocking is any easier. Low asic and high asic chips can reach the same stable clocks on stock voltage
