i've got two computers, both with Win98se, both have D-link 10/100 NIC cards, and i'm running a crossover cable between them.
i got windows to detect and install the drivers correctly (with a little help of the driver disk)
both NICs have a led on them that tells me if it can detect something is on the other side, and both have their LEDs on so that means the physical connection isnt a problem.
i installed TCP/IP and then IPX, i set the IP address of my better computer to 192.168.0.1, subnet was 255.255.255.0. and the other computer was 192.168.0.2, with the same subnet. i made sure their bindings are correct and everything, restarted, laucnhed up network neighborhood, and it wouldnt detect each other. i wait for a while, and then my other computer (192.168.0.2) detects itself, but still not this computer, and after 45 minutes of waiting i give up, this computer doesnt even detect anything (not even itself like the other computer).
i have a cable modem currently on this computer (192.168.0.1) and its plugged in through a USB NIC.
any ideas whats wrong? i already ruled out the physical connection, i set up everything right for the TCP/IP and the computers still cant see each other, and this computer cant even see itself on the network (the other one can).
thanks in advance.
:edit:: uh ok i pinged the other computers through the command prompt, and they'll ping each other successfully (well i hope i did it rite, i did the command "ping 192.168.0.2", i'm doing it from 192.168.0.1). unfortunately, they sitll wont see each other on the network neighborhood, and this computer wont even see itself. so do i keep waiting? its been quite a while already.......
