Some asshole hit my Evo in a parking lot (2nd time in less than a year) and I had enough. I love the Evo but I can't seem to take it anywhere without it getting hit. I'm the guy that parks out in the boonies, next to protected spots, etc... but it doesn't seem to matter. Somehow people will find a way to smash into my car.

Found this just south of me and picked it up for 3K. Interior is mint, exterior is great except 3 small areas where there's a little surface rust around rear wheel wells. I'll be going through everything as time permits, but it runs great so far. Changed the oil and air filter, had the worn out tires replaced and I did the rear brakes last night. Need to go through and do the front and rear diffs and transfer case fluids next.

2004 Explorer XLT V6 4x4 with leather and sunroof.

That's not a beater.
Looks to good to be a beater.

Nice find.
What's the mileage on that bad boy?

Has 135K on it. From research the 4.0 seems to be hit and miss, they either die young or last forever. I'm hoping for the later.

Given that they got 85K out of the tires that were on it, I have to believe it was driven gingerly. They still had tread too but were cracking and hard as rocks.

Newer than 2002 4.0 SOHC motors are pretty rock solid. Before that was timing chain issues. The motors need frequent oil changes with proper oil weight, small channels that tend to get clogged. Do that and you're golden, which is the only issue with buying them used, you don't know the history.

Decent sled for just $3K and it seems gas is not going up anytime soon either.

Didn't they have a chain in the front and rear of the engine also? Trying to remember if that's correct..
