New to Linux...order to install

Hello,

I am looking to have a Triple boot with Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 & Linux Redhat 8.0.

What is the best order to install these?

I was thinking:

1. Windows 98SE onto C:\
2. Windows 2000 onto D:\
3. Linux Redhat onto E:\

Does this sound ok? Is there anything that needs to be considered when having this kind of config?

Cheers,

Jamie

Yep, you're thinking right.

Win2k will detect win98 and set up a boot menu...then when you install redhat, it will install its own boot loader, detecting your other windows installs and setting them up as well.

It should work great.

Just remember that if you install Windows 2000 on NTFS (which I highly recommend doing), you won't be able to write to it from RedHat (or see the partition from Win98); therefore, you should probably use FAT32 for anything you want to be able to see from all 3 operating systems.

Other than that, it should be smooth sailing 🙂

Are you saying you're going to install redhat on FAT? Or are you just saying it's going on the third partition? I would never put Linux on FAT...

Well when I say E:\....I just mean the third partition...I will let Linux partition the space itself. Will definately be using FAT32 for 98 and NTFS for 2000....and FAT32 once again for any shared drives.

All sounds good.....What are the minimum requirements for Redhat 8.0?

Have just installed with all default options onto a P166 MMX + 64mb RAM and it seems to be OK but sluggish in places....is this far too low a spec (my machine has an Athlon XP 1800+ + 512mb DDR RAM so should be fine).
