Ok, i have never made a website. Have been studying and created a small "sample" page that I would like to put on my server space through cox.net

How can I get my information onto my webpage?

I used a ftp editor and it shows that the file has been transferred to remote computer but my webpage never changes.

Hopefully someone can make some sense of what i've said, remember i'm a newbie to this type of thing.

that doesn't sound right... are you sure it's in the right directory? i can't really help you with directory stuff, since that varies by server, but just a thought.
