Hello. I am running the machine in my signature. I just want to know what I should do to get the most points per day out of it. Could someone just link me to the clients I should get and a brief description of how to set it up? I ask because I was wondering if the gpu client requires a core all of it's own or if it's okay to run an smp client and the gpu client side by side. Should I run one smp client or two single ones? Was also wondering what kind of impact on performance this gpu client would have on games. Thanks!

First off WELCOME dguy6789!

next, the GPU client ferks up games. I do the System Tray Client so it is easy to pause or quit when I game.

BUT, the GPU client (especially if you have an NVidia, CUDA enabled card) is the crem de la crem of clients right now.

On a dual core PC, I think you'd be best off with the GPU client + a Console Client but I don't really know too much about production from ATI cards. I think it would still beat a single SMP client.

If you use a GPU client and a Console (CLI) client, be sure to set the system environment variable to 0. I run WindowsXP... we need someone with Vista experience to tell you how to do it in there. (it's very easy)

Thanks for the help so far. Currently I am just running the gpu client. I read lots of horror stories on an smp client messing with the gpu client's performance so I am looking into that still.

Did you mean the latest SMP client? Not sure if that is what is meant by "console client".

If so, I can help. I'm running Vista 32 with GPU2 client and the SMP client on a Phenom Quad Core on one machine, and another Vista32 rig with GPU2 and the SMP client running on a Q6600.

Using FAH6.22beta2 mpich.

Sid meant the single-CPU console client, since the OP has a dualie.

dguy: The SMP client isn't 100% stable or trouble free, plus it needs to be run nearly 24/7 to make the deadlines. If that doesn't sound like fun to you, grab the one called "6.20 Windows Console Client." (Link)

The Radeon 4870s are up around 4000 PPD these days with the larger work units. The CPU client will vary wildly between 200-900 depending on the unit.
