new to firefox - help with tabbing etc

installed it and it looks nice and fresh - obviously i am going to have a bit of a learning curve.
i installed tabbroweser prefs and now can get it to open an external link in a new window and internal links in same window...

however one things [of many no doubt!] that i cant get it to do open a new bookmark in a new tab [if i set internal links = current tab and external links in new tab]....it opens bookmarks in the same tab also this way

so that for example if i am surfing this forum and also want to go to another bookmakred site all i can do at the moment is open a new tab then go to that tab and click on the bookmark; if i do it while in my AT tab it overwrites this tab....

i can "lock" tabs but then even internal links open in new tabs which is equally a pane...

also advice on any "must have" extensions is appreciated! eg any way to change colour of the active tab?

thanks

i have learned how to open a new tan manually and even added the button to the toolbar, what i cant do though it click on "bookmarks" and get a bookmark to open automatically in a new tab [unless i have selected "lock tabs"] as i was alluding to above.

my genius mouse driver is a pain so middle button is resorting to genius crap rather than these functions
scrolling is very slow also compared with IE

thanks
i guess i better uninstall tabbrowser prefs and try ext as the homepage as both says not to use together...

EDIT: just did - very nice...i am liking this firefox malarkey!
